Heard back from Chelsea:
| Quote: | This year the Animal Charities Fair will be held on 14th November, but we are moving to Kensington Town Hall. We all feel we will have a better day for attendance there and the facilities are so much easier. I have to put up the price of the tables to £40 each, cost are ever increasing, but I feel you should recoupe that with better attendance.
Please let me know if youl would like me to send you all details and an application form for a table. |
Do we want to book guys bearing in mind it's a good inside venue, just before Christmas at the time of year when nothing much else is going on?

I haven't got the children's calender for next year yet but 'sounds good to me.' It was fun last year and there is no way we could afford to hit an area like Kennsington on our own I have stashed away some Christmasy stuff left over from year.
PS - I refuse to wear the flashing Santa hat this time
|
Tina D
|
No problem, Karen. I have some flashing raindeer antlers that you can wear instead!!!

Just over two weeks away now Do we have a plan for this yet? I seem to remember the space was quite tight last year.
I have the banner but what else should I be thinking about? I am trying to decide whether to train or drive.

Are you coming Karen??? Yay!!!! You have just scared me saying that it is two weeks away!!!!!!
We were thinking that it would be good to go with the Christmas theme and maybe do Christmas decorations/stuff that could be used for Christmas prezzies??
I will have a clear out of some of my Christmas decorations at the weekend to try and get stuff to bring but if anyone else can have a clear out too and can get them to one of us/Kensington itself, that would be fab!!!
I don't know what the parking will be like. Last year we had to park in Battersea park (but that was when it was in Chelsea), just be sure and check the travel info if you are coming by train so that you don't get stranded like Sharon did last year!!!!

I have a few Christmassy things left over from Hungerford - including some of Xristine's Mum's lovley little Christmas Pud choc covers. They look wonderful, all set out.(Sorry Xristine, meant to say before!!) I sold quite a few in Hungerford.
I think I have a few scented candles etc too.
There is a rumour that Janet might be joining us too

If you need more puds just shout and I'll get my mama on to them. It keeps her out of mischief...
Unfortunately, I can't come I have a surveyor coming here

Janet and I will drive up together. I sent an email out some time ago to all the school mums and as a result I am collecting quite a lot of child bric a brac - will sort through for anything boxed that might be suitable for Xmas pressies.
The link to the website seems to be broken - does anyone know if there were any instructions about unloading etc?

There is nothing much on the website but they gave the wrong address, it is actually:
http://www.chelseaanimalcharitiesfair.co.uk/index.html
(Edited the above..thanks TinaD xxlynne)
there is a car park below the town hall and two others close by. I don't know how much they charge though. The kensington town hall website has their locations:
http://www.rbkc.gov.uk/venuesgeneral/general/find_us.asp
I have dug out some candles, the china bears and some ladies compact mirrors but we are a bit thin on the ground for gifts so if you have any, Karen, they would be handy.
I bought some Christmas biscuit cutters at the weekend so i will roll out some biscuits and make them into christmas shapes-you never know, they might sell better that way!!!!

Today's event was in Kensington Town Hall which was untried and untested - last years event was on the high street at Chelsea Town Hall.
The organiser made us very welcome and our fellow stall holders were good fun. We had an enquiry from a Spanish rescue who wants to be hooked up with the rescue I work for in Spain and also has a friend that is looking for a JRT here in the UK - it's a small world.
Thanks to Karen who has been unwell - she kindly made the journey to drop off our banner and the Christmas puds - much appreciated Karen. Hope you feel better soon.
A couple of enquiries too from experienced dog owners who live in flats and have been discriminated against because of that by other rescues. One of those walks her dog 3 times a day, lives opposite a park, takes her dog swimming and has a 2nd home by the sea - I'd say that sounds like s a good dog home for the right dog!. Hope her questionnaire comes through.
Charlie (Charlie & Ted) paid us a visit today and kindly brought us some merchandise to sell. The day was slow and she saved the day because it was most of the stuff she brought that sold! She also thought of everything and spoilt us with some homemade cookies to go with our coffee which were excellent - we were very grateful.
We had flashing lights, neon ribbon, tinsel a plenty and a Christmas carol singing toucan, but it just wasn't as busy as we would have liked so ... we added a twist to attract more attention! Photos to follow!
The amount raised today was ... drum roll ... £155!
The next fundraising event will be: 21st November, 2009 - Victorian Evening, Hemel Hempstead

Darn it, missed out on the homemade cookies
Well done to Tina D, Sharon and Tina's Mum. I am sure the weather didn't help the attendence figures! Our table certainly looked good and as for the singing Toucun ........................................................

You did! Sorry! I don't think they would have helped your poorly though They weren't homemade but they were delicious and VERY welcome. Charlie did bring us LOADS of excellent stuff too and bought lots of things to take away with her!!!
I will just echo what Sharon said, Thank you soooo much to Karen for getting out of her sick bed to bring us the puds and the banner and lots of kid's stuff. We absolutlely couldn't have done any more to sell stuff. I think the weather kept people away and a lot of people were saying that they first went to Chelsea town hall before being told it was at Kensington. I would imagine that there were people who, given the dire weather, didn't make the journey from one hall to the other. Chelsea town hall is also on the main road whereas Kensington is tucked away so we didn't get the foot traffic of last year. We saw some people from last year and got some good advice on possible future fundraisers so all wasn't lost!!!
Again too, i have to say that our stall was the most fun! We had lights and a toucan that sang Jingle Bells whenever anyone walked past our stall...over...and over...and over....and over...and over!!!!! Also, it was always easy to find our stall whenever one of us left it to get a drink etc...you just followed the sound of laughter!!!
We did a little extra thing that brought us in a few more pennies (NO!!! we didn't strip!!!! That would have cleared the hall!!!!) I think that pictures will be much better than word so you will just have to wait until tomorrow!!!
|

|
Well done girlies!!!!!!!
I'm waiting for the pics so I can gain some ideas of how to raise extra money, I certainly don't fancy stripping but could ask for donations to keep my clothes on, that should bring in the money

All I can say is that it was Tina's idea, I am really far too old to have considered it, but she is a bad influence and brace yourselves!

well done everyone. You couldn't have tried harder

Ok, i think you have all waited long enough, i will not keep you in suspense any longer. The day started normally enough, here is a picture of our stall with my Mother, Sharon and the lovely generous Charlie (we would have got a picture of Karen but none of us wanted to get close enough to her to catch her lurgies )
Then they made the mistake of letting me go to the toilet on my own, where i discovered that there was a facepainter in the building!!! This is the result:
Then Sharon (ever my loyal follower ) got her's done too:
my mother was dignified and refused until i blackmailed her by saying that i would put £10 in the RR tin if she got it done too(yes, i will resort to blackmailing my own mother for money for the dogs )!!:
Here we are, the three nutters together!! Doesn't it make you want to join us on a fundraiser, doesn't it???!!!
