Homed Homing Requirements: Alfie is a little nervous so needs a tender family who can ensure he only ever has friendliness offered. He can wee a little like a puppy if trying to overcome nerves and currently relates to lead offered to him. Ice could be an only dog but could possibly live with another. Unassessed reference cats or small furries. Dog savvy children over 6 year of age should be fine (for his own protection).
His Story: Alfie was found stray and the dog warden couldn't understand why no-one had reclaimed him. He apparently has to put a lot of Staffies to sleep as there just aren’t any takers with rescues but he spent an afternoon devoted to Ice to try and find a rescue to take him as he was booked in to be put to sleep the next day. We agreed … what a hero the dog warden was and what a gem Alfie is. Now neutered, chipped and just finishing vax. In emergency kennelling in the Gatwick area.

Advert: The name Ice doesn't suit this boy unless you add his full title Ice-Cream! Yes he is yummy, enjoyable on any occasion and he is a smoothie. Ice is a little reserved in kennels but building confidence all the time. He now has many friends and welcomes anyone with a lead, treat or just for cuddles. Ice is meeting dogs well too and assessed to be receptive as much as we can judge within our circumstance.
Alfie is white with brindle patches, one over his left eye. He is around 18 months old and a pedigree Staffie and has a sweet gentle face, soft coat and a very friendly nature. He wants to befriend and would so benefit being able to relax in a home. Could suit a first time Staffie owner providing they are offering him stability and confidence through their dog skills in life and an inclusive home to share his loving heart.

See Alfie's thread is below: Watch his progress through our RescueReferral Details: Dog warden called with little hope in his voice I knew he had a Staffie out of time. I knew when I asked a question we were going to take. He couldn't give us anytime, just he goes to the vet tomorrow take him or leave him. His manager doesn't negotiate 7 days and they go to the vets.
We agreed to Alfie on Thursday afternoon. He is booked into our vets Friday morning for neutering, vaccination and microchip.
Friday morning and we had a very nervous Staffie on our hands. Lauren was known to him and she managed to get the slip lead on and then clip lead. In the kitchenette we put a harness on. By then he was on our laps and licking us. Travelled well in a crate and non reactive to Duke coming in the front seat. In the vet much less nervous and met another Staffie with wagging tail. Didn't need to muzzle him for his pre med injection which I made sure was done before I left. Brave boy and I felt in no danger of being bitten even with several attempts to inject and prolonged injection.

Well little Alfie was a worried boy when I found him crouched in his kennel this morning, but after a little coaxing and lots of motherly love he gained his confidence, his tail went up and we had the best of walks. He is a little gorgeous boy, very easy to walk, loves the company of another dog and stopped to wag his tail at anyone and everyone. Love this boy and hope you love his photos ...
Louise took the adorable Alfie out yesterday and while he was very nervous he visably relaxed in Harriet's company seemingly drawing confidence from her presence. He seemed very respectful of her and while he didn't want to play he did want to be near her. I suspect therefore that his dog social skills may be good - needs to be tested , and he might like to live with another dog for company.
Alfie has come on so well over the past week as he finds his paws and many friends at the kennels. We had a wonderful session in the paddock yesterday which was a new experience for Alfie. He readily exchanged love and meanwhile enjoyed the freedom of exploration of grass blades and soundscape.
Alfie has arrived in Brentford into foster with Karen. Karen has restricted mobility and needs to use a scooter outside and also has a communal garden which isn't secure so they are going to take each day at a time and explore 'Life with a dog' for Karen and see if Alfie can have a good time exploring life in the community and going to work with Karen. We obviously all hope it works out but no blame if it doesn't and we'll be able to fine tune 'needs' better. We will put Alfie on reserve just so whilst he is with Karen other families don't enquire _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Early days but the report so far: Ice came out of his kennel straight into my car then the wonderment of a warm comfy flat, a walk around a local park with an "off lead" dog area. He laid his parcel in the off lead area but didn't mark or wee. Arrived home into the flat and 'wee'd!' bless. He then is greeted with a rainy day and dear Karen hasn't yet managed to get him to wee outside.. He is a little precious over his tennis balls and is also trying to dissuade her taking on or putting on his harness. Went for a walk over the park and met one large dog well, but the other he started to growl with his tail between his legs, but Karen continued to talk with the owner and the owner produced treats and he became 'all friendly'! Met a Staffie in PAH superstore with delight. He is sleeping for Britain as many exkennel dogs do. Karen is positive and as a first time dog owner actually doing very well. Early days...tomorrow its to work with Karen! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Bless Karen for giving it a go and giving her all. Keeping fingers crossed for them both and that's its a match. Ice ... don't blow it boy, it could be your dream come true - embrace it with both paws! _________________ SHARONR - ADMIN
Well Ice (re-named Alfie, but don't tell Lynne) is doing really well, happy to walk (or run) alongside the scooter and gaining confidence every day. He had a really long play session in the dog park (off lead) with Coco the mastiff yesterday evening and was covered in mud, exhausted and very happy afterwards. We still have a few accidents but he is now happy to wee in the garden (as long as I am there) and in the park.
I had to leave him on his own for the first time this morning (at about 0940 hrs) but after a long walk and with a "kong" stuffed full of treats he didn't even notice me leave, then come back (forgot the car key!!) and leave again, so hopefully he will be okay and just sleep. He is a big chewer so I have left him lots of toys and balls (most of them already in pieces lol) to chew on and hope that I won't find he has started on the furniture (again!) when I get home (in about half an hour).
He is booked in with the vet tomorrow morning for his second lot of vacs. and after that I am hoping that Lynne will let me adopt him :-) I will also post some photos later.
