Homing Requirements: Terry needs a family who have had a terrier recently or understands their fabric. He needs support around his fears such as close traffic. He can get concerned by some large dogs; he can divert his confusion on to you. Only dog probably. Older children only or supervised around visiting children.
His Story: Terry was found stray. His finder thought she'd keep him but he was reactive meeting large dogs on 2 occasions and also grabbed a cat in her garden … cat was fine, but Terry is nursing a sore eyebrow. The rescue centre didn't have the confidence in placing him with the right family and sought our help. Neutered, chipped and vax'd.
Advert: Terry the Terrier - what a Fella! Black Fell terrier indeed. Terry has the looks and the charm. He can seem a little remote, in deep thought but he welcomes handling and affection. He concentrates on his walks and has the swagger of the accomplished 'man' about him. He meets dogs well generally and may have even lived with another dog or 2, who knows. Travels well in the car but concerned walking near traffic. Watch Terry as he will show clear body language so you can support and respond accordingly.
Terry is every bit the Patterdale with a coarse wire coat and beard. He isn't high energy but he thinks like a terrier and his instincts are his makeup. Homing a 'working type' terrier is a pleasure but needs awareness to understand and accept the terrier mind and protect them from the dangers they can face because of this. Terrier ownership is about mutual respect, loving care and heaps of fun.
If you are interested in re-homing please complete Our on-line Homing Questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.
"Please note this dog is currently in boarding kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found"
Watch Terry's Thread below: And see his progress through our Rescue Referral Details: Dear Lynne, I'm calling regarding a male patterdale which we are looking to find a home. He is called Terry, he is vaccinated until July and already micro-chipped. He is a neutered male and is very loving with adults but has a high predatory drive so he is not good with cats or excited with other dogs. He has previously lived with other children but doesn't really interact with them it has be told to us that he just avoids children!
We are currently full and in need of some help, if you can help us to rehome Terry or give us any other advice or rescue contacts then please e-mail or contact me. Chrissy Animal Warden & Animal Welfare Hull
Terry comes to us on Friday 10th Feb. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
What a cute little lad! Such an attentive, attractive and intelligent boy. Terry learnt within minutes of jumping into the car for the journey south that there were treats in the Sainsbury's bag, and he only had to put on a bit of charm and ask politely to be rewarded! He was sufficiently confident and friendly to want to sit on my lap before settling down, curling up and falling asleep on the passenger seat. On arrival at GN he had a little trot round his new home and a good sniff before walking through the area of barking "big" dogs without hesitation and into his freshly prepared kennel. He will make some lucky person a delightful and endearing companion, but they'll have to hurry as I don't think he'll be in GN long.
I've got a feeling there might be a little walkers "negotiation" over who gets to walk the lovely Terry today.
Place your bets...Charlie or me? I imagine Charlie will pull out the "I've had a really tough week and I deserve a treat card" Actually I know I can't trump that so no need for any bets. This boy is seriously cute.
Oh well there's always the gorgeous Alfies, bouncy Bronte, fun loving Buddy, giddy Ronnie..... in fact all the GN's are really quite scrumptious, a lovely bouquet of dogs for Valentines week walkers.
Oh my - what a treat! I managed to elbow Susiebee out of the way & was rewarded with a lovely cuddle
Terry did share his love around with Sue & Sarah before enjoying a walk with Alfie & Ronnie...

Terry came out into the sunshine today and brightened up my day. We had a long leisurely pleasurely walk today where he could sniff to his hearts delight, mark and pick up his 'pee-emails' and survey the blades of grass, horizon and all that moved.
Terry doesn't pull on the lead and travels at a saunter.
I took him down to the river and actually lifted him into the water as up until that point he showed no interest, 'hum..perhaps not', didn't quite know what to make of it but perhaps his next visit he may have developed more curiosity. We then purposefully walked along a busy road. You do need to tune to Terry as he is rather deep but his body language is clear. He was wary walking near traffic and one way to avoid was to enter every garden he could..”door to door” home finding? We spied a Bedlington seated in one window who didn't invite us in for afternoon tea, which was a shame.
Ahh first daffodils!
Back into the wooded area of our walk and Terry was relaxed. Didn't meet any dogs or horses, but a really relaxed walk. Back at the kennels a little concern appeared as he focused on the looming door. Sarah was there to reassure.

Terry took a keen interest in Tictac's antics in the stream this week
Not sure about all the splashing about - just toes in for him...
Cuddles & treats are more his thing

What a treat ! The lovely Terry has come to stay for a weekend break from the kennels, but if I'm honest, the treat's all mine !
I started walking at Gatwick North in February and little Terry arrived shortly after and I've always had a soft spot for him, who wouldn't !
Anyway, I had a free weekend at home and what better way to spend it than with the lovely little fella, its been a joy and he's such a polite and gentle house guest.
I didn't know quite what to expect having not known Terry in a home environment but he has surpassed with gold stars in every way - he's totally house trained (I was expecting the worst !), he's never left my side, such a faithful little guy, full of affection and love and so ready for his forever home. He's very placid and jogs along rather than zooming around in true terrier style but has shown some lovely playful mad 5 minutes - with his new toy below being a case in point !
You simply don't get to see this sense of fun in the kennel environment so they have been great moments !
I apologise now for all the pictures that follow but he's such star and I wanted everyone to see him shine !
He loves to play - very gentle and happy for you to take the toy from him and even drops the ball occasionally for another throw !
He's a very good little walker, stays by your side, never pulls, a pleasure to take out. We've met a couple of on lead dogs on our walks so far (a lovely lab and gorgeous staffy - both very well behaved) he was a little nervous but with gentle encouragement passed by with no trouble at all and earnt himself some well deserved treats !
He gives a paw and takes treats so gently from you, never a snatch, he's a very patient little man !
Best of all he likes his tummy tickled - on the sofa, on the floor, in the garden, he's not at all fussy if tummy tickling is on the menu - another affectionate characteristic that he doesn't get to show that often in the kennels ...
He also loves to sleep and cuddle ...
His head on my lap, in seventh heaven, note he's upside down and having another tummy tickle !
He did have one funny moment, he was in the kitchen when I turned on the tele in the lounge and couldn't work out who all the new voices were so scampered in barking (no agression, just noise !). Tele went off and then on again with sound turned down and slowly ramped it up to normal volume and he's happy with it now ! Or maybe he just wasn't happy with my choice of channel - it was Eastenders so maybe he had a point ! Clever discerning boy Terry !
He's been lying next to me on his rug on the floor as I've been writing this, snoring away, very content ! But he's just woken up and think its time to play or head out for a walk so will sign off for now !
Such a gentle soul, and so deserving of a forever home - if only I didn't work !
How can you resist him ...
