Posted: Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:56 am Post subject: Bruno Shepherd x Collie 06.07 Fostered Kingston
Homing Requirements: Requires dog experienced family to continue skill foundation. Needs another confident dog as role model outside. A secure garden/exit regime and low dog density exercise location would help. Could live with older children. The man in his life would have to be committed, aware and a true dog lover. Inclusive family i.e. sleeps in bedroom.
His Story: Bruno grew up owned by a young lad and neglected; abused on occassions. He has been with us in foster iving with 3 other dogs plus fosters and has really left his past behind. He is happy to meet people in and outside his home and may do an initial bark when seeing strang dogs but settles well. Bruno received a great deal of love, care and training and is now ready for his home.
Advert:Bruno is a beautiful Shepherd x Collie born Jun 2007. Bruno had a shocking start suffering inconsistent messages, neglect and abuse but this now firmly in his past having been in foster for 2 years. He has learned to trust and built loving and stable relationships with his foster family. Bruno has been living with 3 large dogs and trusts the dynamics of a pack. Recently he was guardian angel for 7 pups to be fascinated and enthralled by. Housetrained, 'treat' trained and respectful of boundaries, Bruno has his first training certificate. Bruno is a loving intimate dog who enjoys his cuddles, sits expectantly climbing onto the sofa when invited. Bruno shares attention, treats and space well with other dogs. He is good in the car and walks well around streets on a short lead. Outside in open spaces he can demonstrate concern with other dogs but learning to trust dogs, not as a threat.
Bruno requires at least one other dog companion. Bruno also needs a dog sensitive male in his life. He needs to be central and inclusive within his new family, i.e. in the bedroom and exits managed securely; garden fences in good repair and substantial. Loving reassurance will enable Bruno to come further as an emergent adult dog. Bruno has so much to offer in return. In his foster home he is a model dog who is subservient to other pack members, loving and caring towards his family members. Loyal he is, affectionate he is and so, so worthy. Fostered in Kingston

Oh yes she is pleased..but a lot of work to do with him as other than elementary commands he hasn't developed basic confidence; skills or play. Watch this space. Went to the vet this pm for a check over and being treated for infection to dew claw healing areas. Paula has it all in hand..he is going to be very well cared for. Paula will join the forum and keep us all up dated.
PS Paula owns a petshop so Bruno has lots of goodies to enjoy! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Met this young man this morning, what a love. GSD through & Through although size of a collie. He has had his dew craws removed and is finding it difficult to stand still long enough to let them heal. What a smasher _________________ Sue - Chessington

Just a quick update. He slept well in his crate last night, he had a little wimper just after i turned the lights out so i plugged a night light in for him and didn't hear a thing for the rest of the night.
Was greeted with a waggy tail and a smile this morning. He was very pleased to go out for a walk but hasn't quite got the idea that he can pee while he is out so he held on for the whole walk and dashed back in to the garden and peed for england!
He has been a star while i have been changing his dressing, his legs are painful and he just shuts his eyes and holds his breath.
Hopefully today he will relax a little more and start to interact a bit more with my two who are just waiting to have a good game of run around.
Bru is a much more relaxed chap today and has spent the last hour playing with Chaos. She told him off a couple of times for being a bit rough but he took it on the chin and enjoyed himself.
He has total respect for Sebastian, Seb's only has to raise an eyebrow and Bru is saying sorry LoL
I started to take photo's but batteries went flat i will try harder tonight
I will change his dressings tonight and i have my fingers crossed that things a getting better
I thought I would sneak on the computer to tell you all how I am getting on. I have a busy time here and some fab friends to play with, Chaos says she likes being my friend but I find her a bit annoying when she tries to clean my ears yuck!! She is showing me how to play and I think I understand that tug game now….
I was a naughty boy last night and managed to take one of those horrid dressings off of my leg, Paula thought the bucket on my head and a pair of socks would stop me, fooled her tee hee. I only did it coz I love to lie upside down on Paula’s lap to have my dressings changed and I just have to kiss her ear for her when she has finished.
People came round to the house last night to visit, the lady that came was nice but I found the man very scary he was very tall and had a hat thing on his head. I barked as much as i could to tell him to go away but he wouldn't listen, i was very brave though, he sat down and started dropping food on the floor ! Too good an opportunity to miss free food!! I did say thank you to him before he left by sitting on his feet and letting him stroke my head.
Paula says that I am a bit nervous. I say when in doubt about anything shout as loud as you can so people think you are a scary monster!
Must go and find that bone I started , will catch up with you all soon
Dear Bru we are about to nicname you Ironbru...you have to strong and brave a resist all naughtiness to remove those bandages..else how are you going to be running round and round and learn to 'cause Chaos!' _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
[b][i] Hi Paula, so pleased Bruno is with you, are the dressings on the dew claw wounds. The young lad in the kennels just let him belt around the pen, he should have been kept on a lead. Never mind I am sure they with heals with your TLC _________________ Sue - Chessington

Hi Sue, yep the dressings are on the dew claw wounds. Bru had unpicked his stiches both sides and made a right mess of himself .
The wound on his right back look great last night nice and clean and starting to heal. His left leg is still yuck but much better than it was. We are off to the vet tonight to have it all checked.
I started some clicker work with him last night and he is fab. He has been learning to touch and follow my hand, he tries so hard for me
I will let you all know how he got on at the vets when i get to work tomorrow
Bruno is a young dog who was purchased via a free ad paper 6 months ago by a 16 year old who didn't put the time into his needs and the father insisted he had to go. He has the shepherd coat, trainability and people personality...and the Collie intelligence; fun/ play/ chase outside. So easy to manage in the home but needs training time put into his lead work and recall. He is just building his confidence as was nervy when he arrived but had been through the ordeal of a pound, a long journey then kennels.
Lovely lovely dog, currently fostered with 2 other dogs and great! He is newly neutered/ dew claws removed and chipped/ vax'd.
If you think you can offer him the stability he needs please visit our website Click HERE Rescue Remedies _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Bruno is still doing well and his back legs are pretty much fixed, he only has to wear dressings when we are out and about now which he is happy about! The daft chap managed to cut the skin between his toes on his front foot, I can only think he did this while digging a super size trench with his partner in crime (Chaos) in my back garden, if Chaos stands in the hole you can only see her ears LoL. The vet checked the wound last night as is happy that I keep it clean and dressed for a few days and has given him a few extra antibiotics just in case.
He was such a good boy in the vets no barking at people and stood like a rock to be treated…what a star.
I weighed him again last night and he has managed to put some weight on, he was 17.2 kg when he came he has now got up to 18.6 kg which is fab news.
He is going for a big day out tomorrow. We are off to an agility show for the day so I will be dragging him out of bed at 4 am for his breakfast, I’m sure he will be please to get his grub early …
I will let you all know how he copes with the masses of dogs and people that are going to be there, ( there is 311 in one of Chaos’s classes!!) I am going to have plenty of time to spend with him as I have one class first thing and the other two classes last thing so I am sure he will have some fun
