Homed
Homing requirements:Murphy needs a stable family around him who will offer him patience and training with a regime to engage his intelligence and capitalise on his well meaning nature.
His Story: Murphy was Rescued from an Irish pound and kindly neutered and transported to England for us to find him a suitable home. He is in the process of vaccination and has been wormed but still needs to be built up as he is underweight and his fur lacks lustre. He is in boarding kennels but needs some home comforts.
Advert: Murphy is a special dog who is interested in life and especially his 'people'. He arrived into a pound in a fairly poor state but his wonderful demeanour drew the attention of the staff to go all out to help him. He is a celebrity in our rescue as we have only just begun to help Irish Collies after many years break. He mixes well with other dogs and is receptive to human love and ready to be indulged.
Murphy is about 2-3 years old, a taller Irish Collie who will have a luscious coat once he receives the loving care of a family and continued adequate good food. People that come forwards for Murphy must explore what they have to offer Murphy as a Collie. He needs an inclusive lifestyle. He has a keen and inquisitive interest in life, ready to pursue with his heart and mind. He needs loving kindness and patience to allow him to settle into a new lifestyle.

See Murphy's thread below: Watch his progress through our RescueReferral Details: Hi Lynne,
This is Murphy. He is approx. 2 to 3 years old. He loves to play football and fetch, He knows sit & stay. He is a bit nervous of new dogs initally but settles after a few mins. He needs an active family. He is neutered, wormed, defleaed and has his first vaccination. Thanks, Kathy (Dublin)
This is the original Collie we were asked to save which has started us supporting Irish Dogs again. Murphy is friendly and has been neutered for us and our Irish Friends are paying Transport costs. Currently held in boarding kennels awaiting transport to England
Toddy comes to us Thursday morning from Dublin. The Rescue who got him out the pound say he is such a lovely boy.

Today was a super day for a 'Hot Murphy!' Dear Dear Murphy travelled 24 hours in a van across the Irish sea to arrive with us. He jumped into my car passenger seat as though it was his rightful place to be. 3 mins later we were at the kennels and Murphy was having the longest pee ever. Margaret and Kelly were walking up behind and wondered if he had become frozen in space.
Kelly trotted off into her kennel then whilst I went to get Fudge out the van Margaret made friends with Murphy which did involve belly rubs.
Murphy was happy to be walking and was alert; didn't react to traffic and was everso comfortable in handling, management and intermingled with Fudge as close friends. Murphy is leggy and has very special ears just like Branston!

I didn't walk Murphy myself but walked with him and what a lovely boy he is! He was so adorable I couldn't resist going into his kennels for some cuddles at the end of our walks. He is everything I would want in a dog just lovely- he would make any family happy and I bet with a bit of training he would be an amazing agility dog! I'd have him myself in a heartbeat if I could!

I have the absolute privilege of looking after Murphy for a wee while. I can tell you ths boy is absolutely smashing. He really will make someone a fabulous pet.
He travelled home with me in the car with no problem at all and once home was very keen to explore all the nooks and crannies in the house and garden. After that I walked to him to our local pub where everyone fell in love with him. He is easy to walk as he doesn't pull and is just quite happy to sniff everything around him. I really love the fact that he is interested in everything, it is as if he really appreciates the world around him and all the different sights and sounds. With most traffic he was fine but he was a little scared when we had to walk a couple of hundred yards down a very, very busy road but with a few words of support from me he was fine. (I can't blame him to be honest as the cars do whizz by.)
He has just the nicest temperament. He wants to say hello to everyone and is so gentle. If you don't pay him attention he gently paws your leg as if to say "come on". After a while at the pub he just lay down quietly at my feet and snoozed. The owners of the pub have a two year old son and he was really good with him too. In fact he was really pleased to spend time with him. His tail was wagging like mad. He was very gentle with his interaction although you do have to keep an eye on him as he is quite a tall dog and he can be a little enthusiastic with his greetings.
Whilst we were out walking we met some friends and he walked very nicely with a lab and two spaniels. He really, really wants to run and play and would suit a house with another playful dog.
All in all I really can't fault him. He is a lovely, lovely dog who is looking for an active home to make his own. |

Murphy had a lovely evening chilling out on our sitting room floor last night. He is such an affectionate boy who loves a cuddle.
Overnight he slept downstairs and we didn't hear a peep from him. He was totally clean too which is amazing for a dog who has been in the pound/kennels.
He is very relaxed in the house. This morning I have used the hairdryer and have the washing machine on and he doesn't bat an eyelid. When I was pottering around upstairs he just lay very quietly at the top of the stairs, wagging his tail when I was near him. I think he likes the top of the stairs as the heating pipes run under the carpet so it keeps him toastie.
My dog is finding him a little too playful for him (he is a very old boy) so we have to keep them apart but today my boy is at my Mum and Dads so Murphy has free run of the house while I work. He is just very content to chill out. |

Whilst I was working today Murphy just moved from spot to spot to relax. Sometimes the living room, sometimes the sun in the conservatory and sometimes the cool of the hallway....
We would take a break outside every so often at which point he would roll around a lot! I think his skin and coat are a little dry so it helps to give it a good rub on the grass.
Tonight after work we went for another nice long walk but this time at Frensham. It was quiet so we just sped along, minding our own business.

Sadly my foster time with Murphy came to an end today. My 13 year old colliewobble was finding Murphy's playful nature just a bit too much to deal with so I had to make the heartbreaking decision to take him back to the kennels. I have to confess I did bawl my eyes out as I absolutely love this boy and if I didn't already have a dog then I would snap him up in an instant. On the plus side I did have the opportunity to find out just how wonderful he is.
He ......
- is perfectly house trained and in the time he was with me already knew which door to stand in front of to let me know he needed to go out.
- is very calm in the house whether you are there or not. Whilst I was there he just chilled out on the floor in a spot that took his fancy. When I left him for a couple of hours I returned to find him curled up on a dog bed with nothing else disturbed.
- is quiet as a mouse overnight when left downstairs.
- is very easy to walk. He doesn't pull, he just walks forward with keen interest.
- is very affectionate. He comes to you for cuddles all the time and just nestles into your legs before sinking to the ground to have his tummy rubbed.
- is good about getting on the furniture. He never chooses to lie on the sofa but if you are on it will sometimes sneak up for a cuddle. I think you could easily train him not to if that is what you prefer
- is good with food. He eats quite slowly so if homed with another dog you would need to check that the other dog doesn't snaffle his. I fed him Natural Instinct raw food which he really seemed to enjoy. He doesn't seem very treat orientated but did love the roast chicken I gave him so I think it might depend on the value of the treat.
- is very good about being handled. Boy did I have to do some faffing with the harness that doesn't have any clips and he was very patient. Not one grumble. He let me touch his paws and his ears without a problem.
- is good about travelling in the car. He prefers the back seat to the boot as befits a handsome hound of his standing
- is not particularly fond of baths. We did our best with a jug in the garden but he thought he already smelt quite nice and didn't particularly want to smell all clean, thank you very much. However I did manage to wash two thirds of him. I am sure he would settle with this. It was a lot to ask of him when so much has changed in the last few days.
- loves a ball and will chase it and play with it. He comes back quickly as he wants you to throw it again but doesn't quite get drop! I just pulled the ball out of his mouth without a problem.
I discovered only two things that he needs a little bit of guidance on...
- he doesn't like very busy roads or big trucks on little roads. He really gets quite scared. Bless him.
- he needs a little help with his doggy manners. He is a really playful lad and paws other dogs quite persistently to get them to play so he just needs a little help learning that other dogs don't always welcome that approach.
He really is an all round wonderful bundle.
If he is staying at Farnham then I am planning to take him out quite a bit over the weekend so I will pass on all the GS hugs to him then. |

Lovely write up Kate thank you. I had been tempted to bring him home for a day as am a collie fan too. But, also have an old collie girl and just reading I think I would have had exactly the same problem as you as my Bess doesn't want to do anything at all now!! But I am sure there is the perfect home out there for this perfect boy. I loved the feel of his coat so soft and those ears are adorable. |

Well done, Kate. Murphy sounds like a stunner. I take my hat off to you for opening your home to him and letting us all learn through your experiences. _________________ "The question is not, 'Can they reason?' nor, 'Can they talk?' but rather, 'Can they suffer?'" - Jeremy Bentham |

Yes Murphy went all reserved today! He is meeting his potential owners tomorrow, so jumped into the dog mobile to spend a night in Gatwick(S) so we can set off tomorrow lunchtime on to the road to home..Norwich, if Judy and Malcolm fall fro his Irish charms.
We shared a really pleasant walk late afternoon on arrival at our destination
What I so loved about Murphy was having asked him to sit he kept starring at me as though fixed in command..I needed to release him out of my vocal spell!

Murphy met his mum and dad today. His mum has scoured the internet looking for him and as soon as she saw his picture there was that feeling...'that's my boy!' So delighted for Judy and Malcolm. He is safely home now and enjoying your love and the security you offer. Bless him long journey but heaven at last!
