Saw my next door neighbour last night who works from home during the day.  He confirmed that you wouldn’t know I had a dog staying with me as he doesn’t hear a peep.

Watched DIY SOS The Big Build last night.  Ashamed to say but anything like that makes me cry.  Ollie was very concerned to see me upset and set forth in consoling me in my moment of sadness.

Give Ollie a space on the sofa and he will settle anywhere.

Ollie has adjusted to my routine perfectly.  We are up in the morning for a march round the woods and open fields.  He can be a little concerned when other dogs get into his space so I find it easier to pull him to one side and let the other dog pass.  By pulling him to one side it shows the other dog owner that I want them to take control of their dog and not let them do as they please.  Ollie is totally ok with this and allows the other dog past without fuss.

Bad weather conditions don’t seem to bother Ollie much.  He is more than happy to wade through puddles and mud.  This may be because he knows he will get a good rub down when he gets home.  Ollie loves a good towel rub.

After his walk Ollie likes to check out the garden and do his cat patrol.  Has a bit of breakfast and then sits looking out watching all the neighbours go to work.

Ollie is not food aggressive.  I have found I can take away or move his bowl and make him leave treats without fuss.

I go off to work and Ollie is left for 4 hours.  He pretty much has free run of the house whilst I am gone.  Therefore, he has access to shoes, tv remote controls, dvd’s etc etc.  Ollie hasn’t chewed anything whilst left.
At lunch time I return home for him.  When he eventually comes down to greet me you can tell he has just woken up as he is all warm and smells like cheesy wosits (there’s something about the smell of dog that has just woken up – I love it).   He ventures out into the garden for a quick wee and then returns in doors.  I share some of my lunch with him and I return back to work.  Ollie is then left for a further 4 hours.

Ollie isn’t an over excited dog when you first return home.  It’s almost as if he is a little reserved to say hello as he waits to see what you say to him and how you greet him first.  Once he realises the greeting is a good one he showers you in kisses (my face has never been so clean since Ollie has been staying with me – I’m sure he thinks he is part dog, part lizard).

Once I’m changed we go out for his evening walk.  Tell Ollie to sit for his harness to be put on and he does perfectly.  Back for dinner, another cat patrol round the garden and a bit of play time.  Destructible toys do not last 5 minutes.  If you want something to last, Ollie is far better with a sturdy rag toy.  Once you get him started he is more than happy to play with this himself.

Not long before he is wanting to settle down for some cuddles on the sofa.  When Ollie first came I kept him off the sofa and he totally respected me when I told him no.  Since I have found he doesn’t tend to moult and that he is so much happier being with you and giving cuddles I allow him up.

Ollie is now spending his bed time with me.  He just loves burying himself under the duvet, doesn’t take up all the room and doesn’t snore.  Perfect.

I would like to think that he is enjoying his break from the kennels and would love to think of him in his own home.  He has proved himself to be such a special boy, so sweet, loving, generous with so much to offer.

I am now team Ollie!

Weather Warning!  The nights are soon to be getting colder.  Thinking about how you are going to keep warm at night?  Thinking that a hot water bottle may keep the chill of your tootsies?  Think no more, get yourself an Ollie…he will keep you as warm as toast in the winter evenings.

Ollie has spent just over two weeks with me.  Just a short amount of respite for a dog that has been in kennels for so long.  Considering the time he has spent in kennels I am surprised that he comes with no emotional hang up’s.  There are no trust issues and no needing time to get to know each other.  With Ollie you get a dog who wears his heart of his sleeve and is ready to fit in with your routine right from the minute he’s with you.

couldn't bear the thought of returning him in this weather.  It does mean that he is left on his own a little longer than I would like but I consider that a better option for him than sitting freezing his little toes off in a kennel.

Ollie is more than happy to keep my sofa company during the day!

I wasn't able to go home straight after work yesterday so had a neighbour and her 13 year old son look in on Ollie for me.  Here's what she emailed me today:

Hi
Was Ollie ok when you got in?  He’d be a rubbish guard dog – he was all over us once he’d wandered casually down stairs.   Liam was immediately besotted and he played with the red rope thing for a while and they were rolling around the floor together – Ollie licking Liam to death and Liam tickling his tummy!
As per text, I think he wee'd but nothing more and was out and back in again very quickly.  We tried standing outside with him, in case he wanted the company and that was stopping him going outside, but he ran back in and left us out there!
Liam wanted to give him the bigger bone thing on top of the food tub but I wasn’t sure so we didn’t.  We just gave him the mugful from the tub.
Hope you had a good night
Linda

Whilst I chatted to a couple of people, this morning, Ollie sat comfortably in the presence of a greyhound and a Staffie.  The greyhound was off lead but didn’t come into Ollie’s space.  The Staffie was on lead and did want to come in for a closer hello.  Ollie was a little apprehensive of this and told him to keep his distance.  Once the three dogs were happy with the spacing between them they all sat like bored children wondering when their walk was going to continue.

I now not only think Ollie is half dog, half lizard (due to the amount of times his tongue comes out of his head) but is also part slug.  He has a funny way off getting off the sofa or coming down the stairs.  His front two legs walk down normally but it’s like rigormortis has set in with his back two as he stretches these out behind him and slides them off.

Ollie enjoys a good game. We have invented ‘where’s the flee’ and he also enjoys ‘round and round the garden’.  Where’s the flee send’s him into a funny five minutes.  It’s almost like he is possessed as he runs from one room to another, and up and down the stairs, at top speed.  His face is precious when we play round and round the garden – oh the anticipation on where the ‘tickly under there’ is going to end up.

Ollie went and watched under 10’s play football yesterday.  He was so well behaved.  He welcomed any attention from anyone wishing to give it to him – mum’s, dad’s, brother’s and sister’s, he wasn’t fussy.  We were there for just over an hour and even though you could see his boredom, he leant on my legs after a while, he remained calm and patient.  There were a couple of kids, playing football, that were also called Ollie.  It didn’t phase our Ollie that his name was being called out.  What a good boy.

I took Ollie out for a walk in the snow yesterday. He is looking fantastic and despite being back in kennels he seemed very content.
Ollie always gives a lovely greeting when you enter his kennel and was so happy to be out and about. He walked nicely alongside Charlie, minding his own business and enjoying all the lovely smells along the way.
He enjoyed a rub down with the towel afterwards (his belly was black with mud!) and some calm cuddles and I left him happily with a rawhide chew.
