Homing Requirements: Holly needs a sensitive and caring family who can continue to support her emergence! Secure garden and exit management. Dog company is everything to Holly, she must live with at least one other dog. Holly can get scared of children so needs controlled exposure especially out in public. Holly is used to living with cats.

Her Story: Holly was taken from a deprived existence. Holly was fostered with other dogs and cats, then homed for nearly a year mixing freely with dogs inside and outside the house and attending weekly term time training.  She lives successfully with 2 cats but took time to settle. Had a recent incident getting into neighbours garden with another dog and family feel they can not trust her. She is spayed, vax'd and chipped.

Advert: Holly had an impoverished background and although she is an accomplished dog proved with other dogs and cats, she can lack confidence with strangers or excited children.  Holly needs at least one other dog's company, adores their company, is playful and respectful.  Holly is loving, relaxed within her home setting and can be left within her pack. Still in own home in Bordon, Hants.

Holly is a 2 year old pale fawn crossbreed with a dark muzzle. Holly is a joy, so gentle and an appreciative girl who is loving and tender within her family. Holly would love an inclusive family home to satisfy her adoring nature. Holly has confidence being outside, meeting all manner of situations and making friends but needs children to be well behaved as she can get frightened of their energy, and can read them as unpredictable. Holly has always shown intelligence, kindness and a sense of sharing within her pack.

Collected Holly from the Pound today in Biggin Hill. Caroline who alerted us, Brady who owns the kennels, his staff, and the dog warden Tara were jumping for joy that Holly had got a foster within hours of arrival. She was carefully lifted into the travel crate and settled though was a little sick. We flew to Gatwick (S) and borrowed a crate from Sue and Graham and collected some warm coats..then off to Gatwick (N) and collected Lexi who has a foster place. We then flew to Twickenham Vets (I''ll be calling it Heathrow soon!) Holly was received with aghast and such warmth and love. Christabel checked her thoroughly and continued her Panicure treatment for a further 7 days to ensure she hasnt caught lungworm. Suggested 4 small meals a day on high quality moist food. Lovely temperment and health good just drastically emaciated.

We dropped Lexi off into foster then xxlynne sorted her dogs. A short spell in the back garden but too nervous to do anything but eat a small meal. Quick call into Kew vets as had forgotten to microchip. Then shared xxlynne''s sandwich on the road as we sped up the A1 to Stevenage where Holly was met by her devoted fosterers Gabrielle and Andy..such love she took to them..she was happy as she headed back up the A1 ...all is A1!

This shows her size

PostPosted: Sat Oct 30, 2010 4:41 pm    Post subject: Holly's First Night With Us Reply with quote

Hello!
This is Gabi, Holly's foster mommy for the next few weeks Smile

Just to give an update on her first night, she has already stolen our hearts! She is such a gentle sweet little thing and adores Andy already (I am sat about a foot away from her typing this and she has not stopped chirruping and whinnying since Andy went out to grab something for dinner about ten minutes ago!)

Ok, so; the story so far.

We got her home about 8.30 last night (she slept all the way home) and she timidly sniffed her way from room to room, constantly looking back over her shoulder at us to make sure she was not doing something we disapproved of. Together we explored the house (the cats has become suspiciously invisible) and the garden and had a good old inspection of her new digs before she was given the first stage of her makeover; a jolly good bath! She smelled awful! After two thorough shampoos, and smelling a darn sight better we dried off under the blow-dryer (not just Holly - she managed to get us all thoroughly drenched) and then had dinner. Surprisingly, instead of inhaling it like we expected, she ate this in a very polite manner and at a fairly steady pace.

After dinner we had a relax for the evening in front of the fireplace and Cookie, our 5 month old kitten decided to make an appearance on the back of the sofa. Holly was initially excited (not in a good way) but she understood being told 'no' and after about an hour of distracting her from staring at the cat and giving her lots of praise when she stayed put as our ballsy cat slunk closer, she eventually gave up the lip smacking and decided sleep was a much better idea. We had a minor charging incident with our other cat Oakley (big grey grumpy old man) as we came in from our last wee stop in the garden before bed, but a sharp 'leave' from Andy and a very stern telling off from the cat put an end to it.

We have a dedicated animal bedroom upstairs (right next to ours so we can hear any destructive behaviour, carpet replaced with lino) and we put her to bed in her crate about 11pm with some biscuits and loads of blankets to nest in, leaving the crate door open but the bedroom door shut.

TWO HOURS of crying, yipping, howling and grumbling later we finally heard the sweet sound of silence and there was not another peep out of her all night. And NO ACCIDENTS in the morning! (she is still whinnying for Andy...) We did have some exitable wee dribbles when she realised we had not left her and we did come back for her in the morning and we know from experience that given time she will start to trust us not to abandon her and to enjoy her quiet time.

We had a lovely walk to the shops about lunchtime, she pulls a bit on her harness but as soon as you talk to her she just wants to jump up and get some reassurance that everything is OK. The chirruping and whinnying (she doesn't seem to bark as such, it's a lot of high pitched, nervous, excitable chatter) reached fever pitch when we passed some lads playing football, she clearly wanted to play, but she didn't even bat an eyelid at any of the other dogs we passed.

She does seem to get some basic commands, she will sit and stay although if you say it a bit too sternly she is prone to flattening herself to the ground nervously and wriggling submissively on her side - she has obviously been shouted at a lot poor baby.

Overall she is an absolute gem, so pretty and expressive and eager to please. After being told only once last night she now sits without command before receiving her food bowl and there is absolutely no protectiveness over food or chew toys whatsoever, I think she would probably let you put your hand right in her mouth and pull the food back out!

We are off for our evening walk soon around the playing fields behind our house and then we are going to spend the evening trying to catch up on all the cuddles and love she has missed out on Smile

Ill try to put up some pics tomorrow. She is such a sweet happy girl given everything she has gone through and we are so pleased to be able to help this gorgeous little sweetheart.

Gabi Smile

What a difference a few days make! Holly is fast turning into a happy, soppy, licky little pup!! She is still very puppy like, very wriggly and easily distracted. Everything new is a joy to her and it is lovely to see Smile

Having a well deserved kip after dragging foster Mummy and Daddy across the playing fields!

She gives you such a heartbreaking/heartwarming look when you say her name, as if to say :I'm listening, I hope you're going to say something nice or give me a treat!'

How anyone could look at this beautiful sweet and gentle girl and not feel any shame or guilt about leaving her in the condition she was in just completely amazes and angers me Sad

Hi Everyone, Gabi here with an update on Holly Wobbles Razz

Holly as a pet fitting in to our home and lifestyle is no problem at all, in fact she is quite literally the most pleasurable and enjoyable little lady we have had stay with us in our foster career so far!!

She is obedient, EXTREMELY smart, wants to make you happy and is slowly learning that it's OK to be a bouncy energetic staffy type again. We have only had one accident in the house, (and that was only a little wee), no further incidents with the cats (she now just totally ignores them and walks right past) and she will offer herself up for hugs, kisses, tummy rubs and silly games as often as you want to give them. She is a little clingy.

We have moved her crate at night to the hallway upstairs and leave our bedroom door open. Last night and for the next couple of nights this will be left where she can see into our room at us through the bars. The immediate SUCCESS of this last night was that from the moment she went in her crate and the door was shut, she settled down, head on paws and there was not one peep out of her! (Because she can see for herself that we are still nearby even when we are not in the same room, and that we have NOT abandoned her)

Every couple of days or so we will move the crate a little further back from our doorway and back in the direction of the dog bedroom next door until Holly can feel happy and secure sleeping in there without having direct visual contact with us. We are happy to keep her until we have achieved this so that new owners can expect a much more confident and secure dog than she is now, but start spreading the word! She is such a friendly loving girl, she would make anyone a loving loyal companion for life!!!

Gabi & Andy

Dear Holly had to come out of her foster place this morning as although fine with the cat and most the time fine with the kitten she did play pounce 2x and on yesterday sprained the kitten's hip ligaments  ..no lasting damage thank goodness. So Holly came into our vets and was spayed today. Sealane came forwards to offer her a foster place to save her going into kennels very late last night.  They collected and drove her down to her holiday home in Deal by the Sea!  She has mixed beautifully with Frank and Lorraine's dogs and is going to achieve a wonderful convalence! Heart thanks from us all..can't tell what it has felt like thought of putting Holly in a winter kennel..now she has a warm hearth and hearts.

Frank picked holly up from vets wednesday she traveled back very well especially when you think it was a 2 to 3 hour car ride after her opp , when she got home she meet rhona and blue outside for a walk and frank commented on the change in her when she meet them , she seemed to gain confidence straight away her tail came out a bit from between her legs and more happy demeanour . Night time she slept on her bed by the side of our bed Rhona of course in bed undercovers and blue on his bed . Henry slept down dads she'll meet him and trudy tommorow.       Thursday .  Small walk with blue and rhona home for breakfast which she ate with great gusto then in car to dads to meet Henry and Trudy , weather  was terrible so went straight in to trudy who of course welcomed the new friend , Henry really liked her then with watching due to her stiches they had a game , then trudy joined  { mayhem } decided to leave Henry with Trudy  so Holly doesn't play to much , had a small meal with them very well behaved with this  whent home and she had a quick play with rhona , tried to play with blue he did a little then told her he didn't play like the others which she did listen to and gave him a look as if to say " ok dont throw your rattle out of the pram .                      Friday  Took her to the vets for check up which she handled very well , vet says lovely dog whos stiches are doing well . Then whent to see Henry and Trudy played even madder  with me saying your meant to be taking it easy  but seeing how happy and relaxed she is with dogs compared to how scarred she is with people you dont want to stop her enjoying herself . Henry stays the night dad coming to take him tommorow , he doesn't mind gets spoilt .                                                           Today , Henrys back so holly had her first pack walk . When rhona and Henry where out in the field running holly desperate to join in , when they got near her she play bowed and tried to run of with them but on the lead , THen Henry did it to her teaser . Got home all had food well . Rhona and holly then got on sofa together , henry decided he liked her bed and blue of course did his own thing . Next time will put on photos , tried for playing phots but to blured .

We cant praise Holly high enough her temperament is EXCELLENT as she gets on very well with all our pack and is gaining confidence around new people very quickly. She is very well behaved when it comes to feed time and has no issues regarding protecting her food which you would imagine, bearing in mind her past, that she could have and also shares her toys and treats very well.
Holly is very intelligent and has learnt too sit ,stay and wait already with the help of one of her favourite treats which are gravy bones. She also has VERY GOOD recall even if she is being distracted by following a scent, she runs back too you with the biggest smile on her face that I have ever seen on a dog before. Holly just wants to please you and she is a real delightful little girl who is looking more healthy and happy by the day and I am so pleased that we were able too assist her in her progress as we feel privileged and lucky too share in her life. A REAL DELIGHTFUL CHARACTER so deserving of the best life can give her. :D

Hi all!

I am the Dog Warden who got Holly out of that awful house. I don't often get to see what happens to the dogs once they go onto the rescues so it is lovely to see how fantastic she looks and how well she is doing after seeing how skinny and sad she was when I fist picked her up. She was so frightened of her owner. Her name was Lucky then...she is certainly a lucky girl now! It was such a relief to get her out of there  Crying or Very sad

You do such amazing work with the dogs and if it wasn't for all the hard work everyone involved had put in, Holly would still be a nervous wreck!  :D

Many thanks and give big kisses to Holly for me. xxx

Well we just cant describe how much progress Holly is making in such a short time her confidence compared too when she first arrived has increased massively and is now fairly comfortable in meeting new people especially if they have a nice treat too give her. When out on her walks she will love too meet and greet any dogs she sees and still has the puppy/young dog enthusiasm about everything in life.

Holly has very high intelligence levels and has picked up everything so far in very little time and her recall is perfect everytime, lovely too see her discovering all the fun things life has too give one of her favourites is looking up trees too see if she can find any squirrels which she loves too chase and still returns too you on the first call!!She also likes watching tv which started the other night while watching a documentary about black bears which included some shots of chipmunks, looking very much like the squirrels in the woods where she walks.
Holly has a wonderful fun character and is a delightful little soul who will make the most wonderful family companion as she really enjoys being involved in everything you do and thrives in the company of other dogs.

Enjoying all fun and games with all I meet we all have had a lovelly saturday and are now all curled up on chairs
