Homing Requirements: Martin has a very active mind. He needs a companionship or very active life-style to utilitise his mental energy constructively. He can be obsessive with toys and focused on his food but his messages are clear both in body language and communication. He places his ball but on his terms, places for throwing but may pick it up before you do! Not to live with children as children may not read his messages. Also only pet status.

His Story: Martin is a young Patterdale terrier (Working type terrier) found stray in winter. Martin is neutered, chipped and vax'd.

Advert: Martin is a slender whippet type Patterdale Terrier.  Smooth coated and 'lithe'. Martin adores to be out and settles in social walks but can terrier nip if a dog gets "too close too soon" but it's almost playful; No threat perceived and generally he falls into walking alongside other dogs well. He isn't reactive to dogs.  He is a tender soul. Martin enjoys company and tolerates other dogs either side of his kennel. His confidence will reflect his "lead" manager.

Martin is a character and very endearing. He has the aloofness which comes with many terriers as their focus attunes far beyond. He needs awareness when out on walks so retained on an extender and so is safe. He will settle well with dogs as long as he feels in control and knows You are. We cant wait to see him settled within a family and having a good life. So we are looking for a home who can love him and watch him take up his new life with admiration & change of occupation into 'treasured pet'. I have to admit Martin would be my choice of terrier..he is a concentrated dollop of terrierness!

Please visit Martin's individual thread, in Dogs needing homes in Kennels on our Forum http://rescueremedies.myfastforum.org/about2808.html to find out more about him and follow his progress.

If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire https://rescueremedies.wufoo.com/forms/r7x3s5/ so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

"Please note this dog is currently in boarding kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found"

Martin's Thread is below
Martin was found stray. He is a smooth haired longer legged Patterdale. We are just in the process of assessing him. He was found neutered.

Maidmaza walked Martin earlier in the week and this is what she said about him:
"We had a lovely walk, he was interested in carrying things and was non
re-active to bicycle's and traffic. He'd drop his stick for a treat and
sat down and gave me a paw to swap.
He's a real sweetie - but needs to put on some weight, as every time he
breathed in his ribs were SOO clear."

I've walked him a couple of times now and he's lost some of his interest in carrying sticks and today spent most of the time we were walking with his nose to the ground, sniffing around.
He looked around to make sure I was still there quite a bit and sat  instantly for treats. It looks like somebody has taken the trouble to give him some training.
He's an impressive jumper - he jumped up at the kitchen door when we got back to kennels and I've seen him jump pretty high in his kennel.
He is very playful and loves his toys - I left him with a ball and a squeaky toy and he played with them rather than eat the hide chew I also left for him.
Didn't meet anybody when we were out and about, so I don't have any idea how he is with other dogs yet. The kennel staff say that he's fine when he's out in the paddock.
He is underweight - all his ribs are visible now, but I'm sure he'll be putting the weight back on soon. His coat still gleams though and he has plenty of energy. Lovely boy!
Here he is:

Martin is a lovely young dog.He is very good natured and was happy when I was messing about adjusting a collar on him, for not knowing me he  wasn't bothered at all.  He is a very happy dog and was very interested in meeting people when we walked together. He also was quickly diverted from interest in squirrels, which I was impressed with for a young terrier. Took some photo's but I can't seem to upload them.

Martin is a skinny little mite and definitely needs some flesh over those ribs.  Very happy to be out and about, pulls a bit but nothing major.  He did like to hold a stick or lump of wood in his mouth.  Interested in everything around him but only in an inquisitive way.  He walked nicely with Starsky and had a good ramble on the ranges.
Loved his chewy treats back at the kennels but really needs to be a bit warmer.

This little boy has definitely had some kind of training as he was very responsive.  Quick to sit for a treat and walked really well the entire time.  He does like to carry something and picked up a variety of different sticks while we were out although he was very happy to give them up for a treat.

He loves a toy and I watched him playing happily with a squeaky while his kennel was being cleaned.  He's very cute and very eager to please.  Laughing

Martin...classic Patterdale postures..

We had a lovely time together initially he was just lost in his walk and I walked behind him revelling in his joy; intensity and emersion. Martin was alert to the chickens but then got a little excited so we walked on..with fears that there would be triple yokes in tomorrow's harvest.

He chilled into play with the lead and running around and began to centre more on myself and our bond was formed. Cant wait for out next foree nor can he.

Martin came for a social walk on Friday 5th with Rumpole Boxer Cross and Zebedee . They fell in nicely with one another other than Rumpole in 'true friend' fashion came up close to Martin to greet him and Martin felt it was a little too familar at this stage of the journey and did a little nip on his nose..nothing to show but Rumpole bless stepped back and 2 mins later was wanting to say hello again! Martin was far to busy to have friends and pass the time of day..well there is this branch for a start that shouldn't be there lets move it here..and did you hear something move over there..smell that 'must have passed by this way less than 20 mins ago I'd say'. Rumpole really wasn't interested in Martin's world and focused on enjoying Barbara his walkers companionship and talk about far more high-brow events.

Lovely walk with Martin on Saturday...but let me share a joke with you. The kennel staff had misheard his name and had him up as Marsian. This is the only picture I got out on our walk and seems to prove it!

Tom walked Martin on Friday while I had Stanley - and he definitely got the naughty one! Martin looked ever so sweet in his kennel and is quite a small chap but will do anything for a stick.

Head down looking for stuff to pick up and at one stage he was carrying a stick 4 times his own length - more a small tree branch. Very funny along a narrow path in the woods when it got wedged between 2 trees with him determined to shove his way through. Tom tried to help but Martin thought Tom wanted to confiscate his stick so it didn't go down too well!

He'd probably calm down with more playtime and time out of his kennel - Martin seems friendly and needs lots of stimulation. Here's a picture of him on a rare occasion without the stick.

Martin had a great walk today he carried his kong ball with him from his kennel all the way on the walk..superseded by branches but then belatedly remembered and he carries it onwards. He presents it as though for a game of fetch; looking down..looking towards you pleading looking down to it but no cant quite trust you not to run off with it so he hangs on and changes it to tug of war. We never participate in tug of war so he carries on, as happy as can be. He loves his walks and even came up for cuddles and yes  Embarassed I got kisses ..most honoured! What a wonderful pattie he is !

Martin really is such a stunning looking boy & the moments you connect with him are magic, presumably something in his past has meant he is quite obsessive about carrying 'things' it seem to make him feel more comfortable, I am sure with some understanding & some work he could be... who knows... flyball champion.... ?

Martin is your typical Patti..coy, loving and focused. Times he lost interest in 'items', sticks and toys, freed him to really relate to his walk and myself. He grumbles if you interfer with his 'task', needs respect and not 'controlled' just allowed to be and enjoy and he soon leaves and comes over for a tiny lick! A Patti fan will snap this little fella up

Took Martin out with new walkers today and he was a bundle of fun  Very Happy  Loves his sticks but couldn't make up his mind whether he wanted me to throw his stick or not - dropped it at my feet then reconsidered.

Martin had a nice afternoon walk with Barney, Stanley and Mr Darcy. He was glad to be out and about exploring the world. He was so clever manoeuvring the branch he picked up through some small spaces.

Martin had a wonderful social walk on Saturday with Stanley lakie, Barney and Darcy- staffies. He came out of his kennel 'intense' but actually swung into the walk and mingled beside the other dogs and soon left 'branch carrying' aside. We had a very slight incidence when he just mini nipped Barney but didn't really make contact and Barney's surprize was the factor more than anything. On many occassions Martin was up close and comfortable and I continued to practise offering him a lot of love, praise and cuddles. He seems often so far away in his mind, you know instinctly he is starved of personal acknowledgement. He needs centreing and encouraged to relate. I get shining eyes and little licks with "up close and becoming comfortable" cuddles. He is my kind of dog aloof but inwardly so appreciative of love and a little returned affection from Martin makes your day!
