His Story: Sprout was taken on as a 6 month old pup. He was fussed over and loved, but never really let his hair (?Ears) down and was becoming territorial over his sofa and nipped. His owners became nervous of him. Sprout hasn't looked back since he has been in foster with 2 lurchers and cats.
Salient points: Sprout is a cuddles and puddles dog! Needs to enjoy a sofa, but to understand it comes with terms! Needs a secure garden. Sprout is proven with dogs, cats, horses and 'wild folk! Sprout shouldn't live with young children and be supervised around visiting children. Accepts firm controls needing owners to call the shots, without firing 'direct ammunition!' Puppyish in his ways and adaptability.
Advert: Sprout is 3 years old and has led a sheltered life up until now, but now it's time for Sprout 'to get a life'! Sprout ... no, not in stature, but in grandiose ideas if allowed! His fosterer has the measure of him as we say and as a result he is having a ball! "He jumps on the sofa to add height when he's playing with the lurchers, but got 'kicked off' when he decided it was ok to tell the lurchers to stay away from HIS sofa". In fact Sprout has proven he is worthy of his sofa, but it is shared and not exactly 'owned'. He is a perfect fit into an 'animal home'.
Another insight into his fostering fun ... "the ends of his ears are a little sore so Lizzy put some germolene on them, he was very good as she put it on, but then it started to sting and he threw a little tantrum and ended put in his crate to cool off. He weighs less than a good Christmas pudding, so he stands no chance! But obviously he has been allowed too many opinions in the past. Now unfortunately for him he has germolene on every few hours and has behaved perfectly every time. He has a very inflated ego. He's now sound asleep in front of the fire, lucky boy."
Visit Sprout's thread on our Forum as below. It entertaining and shows just what a character Sprout is and also the life we are looking to replicate for him. He is destined to be a country bumpkin..he is so adaptable and such a joy so cuddles and puddles it has to be! Oh and be warned the Dachie in him means he is a digger!

Sprout's thread is below:
Sprout has been with his family since a 6 month pup, he is now 3 years old. He has been treated like a King, and a King he has become! Over the past few months since the family has had workmen in he has been asserting his rule. Now he has growled and nipped 'the father', who is 78 years old and has a memory loss. It was an assertive stance. Then yesterday the daughter; his owner and both of their carer, who also lives in the house and has Sprout on her bed of night, went to remove a toy that had fallen over his head and he snapped and caught her hand. I went in and within 20 secs had him eating out my hand, playing, responding to affirmative "good boys" and totally relaxed. It took 20 mins to relax his owner.
Sprout proceeded to show me how he loves his garden; his toys; racing around to burn off energy. Sprout isn't let off the lead for fear another dog will attack him..he loves to play with dogs. He presents as a puppy wanting to play and play. Sprout responds well to firm voice; praise and once he relaxed I could stroke him and rough play, oh he was up for it with glee. He can get into barking mode when excited, but change the subject and he soon settles. Sprout moults for Britain being mainly 'Jack'.
Our plan is I am collecting him on Tuesday morning for snip;chip and 1st vax and delivering him back where he will recoup but aim to move him into a 'terrier' home without live-in children to make sure he is loved as a darling PET and respected in that role...without throne!
The bhuddha looks on in amazement!

Collected Sprout today for his snip and chip day (and primary vax). Workpeople were at the home and he was muzzled and looking sheepish. There was a shepherd x dog in the house and he was trying to play with her. The vet staff made a big fuss and were so delighted with him.
He didn't need a muzzle and met Ricky the surgery dog and was delighted to see. He was subdued on the journey home and didn't make it on to my lap When we arrived home he ran up to his owner wagging tail very happy to see..as we went into the house a worklady called him and he ran up and put his paws on her knee and received strokes and a fuss like a long lost friend Not a dog that they were afraid of! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Sprout's owner Sally has agreed to try and hold him until he finds his home to save him going into a cold kennel in winter _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
I took Sprout for a short walk when he arrived this morning. He's very small and so cute and a bit confused about what's happening to him. Within a couple of minutes of setting off, we met 2 tiny JRT's and a large lab off lead and although he was a bit shy to start with, he came around quickly and wanted to play.with them all.
He's very puppy like, has lovely markings and a very waggy tail. I picked him up for a cuddle before putting him back in his kennel and his tummy was wet and dirty from being so close to the muddy puddles! I'll get some photos next time to show just how small (and gorgeous) he is.
Sprout is absolutely gorgeous - such a little cuddle bunny
He is still slightly confused about what is going on but is ready to give and receive as much affection as possible. His coat and markings are stunning - his coat is very soft and silky. He is bursting with energy and is very playful. He is another one that doesn't just wag his tail, but his entire back end
Took Sprout out for a longer walk today. He was full of beans and seems to have settled down a bit. He loves to run and wanted to play with a small JRT - shame she wasn't interested.
He was wet through when we got back so I wrapped him in a towel and dried him off. He wasn't very keen on having his feet rubbed though!
He's got bags of personality and is already a favourite with the kennel staff (and me of course)
This is cheeky Sprout. Took some more photos but none of them do him justice. He has boundless energy and such a sense of fun. I will try to capture this next time.
I feel that little Sprout has been slightly short changed in the last couple of days. On Sunday, he wouldn't settle nicely with Tara so just had to have a short walk later in the day and then today the weather was so awful, it seemed the poor little mite was swimming rather than walking
However, he is still very chirpy and full of the joys of spring. Some lead training is in order, if I can stop laughing long enough
What a little sweetie this boy is. Very bouncy in the kennels and keen to be off and walking.
I have to say I was impressed. He walked really well on the lead and responded to voice and treats very well. Think he could run for England given half the chance and the help of a flexi-lead he tried his best.
He met a couple of well behaved labs and was keen to play, with an extremely waggy tail. One of them he wasn't too sure about but showed no aggression at all.
By the end of our lovely walk he did PERFECT heelwork back past the other barking dogs and I was most proud of him. Gave him a cuddle as he'd been through some rather large puddles so we were as wet as each other. Very cute boy.
Sprout was my first walk this morning and he's such a bundle of fun and energy. He just runs and runs and then runs some more! He seems to get on well with all the dogs we've met - large and small and wants to play with them all. His tail is always wagging - such a happy, affectionate little soul.
After his walk with Janet, little Sprout came with me to the vets for his second vax. He wasn't too keen to get into the car and took a little while to settle. I am not sure how used to cars he is, or if it was my driving and mobile skip that he didn't like
At the vets all he wanted to do was say hello to the world. Good as gold as he was examined and had his jab
Sprout and I had a great time in the rain today. He loves the puddles and isn't remotely bothered about how deep or muddy they are and it's so funny when he shakes himself dry - both his back paws leave the ground and his tail wags at the same time - had me in stitches.
As usual, he ran and ran, even in the rain. He behaves so much like a puppy and it's such a pleasure to watch him enjoying himself. I'm sure he'd love a playmate.
Today I got a face wash while I was towelling him dry
I had the joy of meeting ben today, 1 word for him: awwwwwww!! He is so cute and happy, he really wanted to play and when we were drying him off he gave loads of kisses, I've never had much to do with small dogs but he's so lovely and a very good reason why someone should have one!!! My friend wanted to sneak him home in her coat.
