Posted: Tue Sep 29, 2009 9:18 pm Post subject: Asher Staffie DOB 02. 02 Fleet
His Story: Homed via Battersea 7 years ago as a 9 month old dog. Lived with a young couple who passed him on to their parents. He has lived happily with them for the last 6 years. Mixed with all their grandchildren and coped well with being left. Daughter now going back to college so mother is child minding her baby grandchild and although Asher has always been brilliant with the children she is nervous from the recent press coverage so they have placed him in rescue.
Salient points: An 8 year old Staffie brindle with white socks. Good with people, children. Meets dogs well but not over interested, not a great mixer with dogs. Lovely gentle vib. who has been a model dog with people and children including toddlers. Only pet status. Not for cats. Used to kennels for holidays.
Advert:Asher is in stunning health at 8 years old and has a really nice energy and is friendly with people and children. A kind dog who has been around children of all ages and welcomes visitors. He may have a touch of English bull in him. Travels well in the car once he settles. Walks wonderfully on a lead. Doesn’t really want to know dogs. He doesn't like fireworks and 'not for cats'. So only pet; great with children and people.
Asher was living with a middle aged couple providing him with a comfortable lifestyle inclusive of daily long walks. He is neutered and fully vaccinated. Lovely, kind dog who needs a retirement home in words; but he certainly isn't ready for retirement! Not a dog to be off the lead; just happy to walk beside you passing the time. He is used to being left during the day for 6 hour spells. Loves to sunbath. Easy to manage generally but not for dogs or other pets. He is part of his human pack. Gatwick kennels

Asher's thread below:
Asher was rescued from Battersea as a young dog; his current owners took him off their daughter 6 years ago. The wife however is nervous about the very young grandchildren being around him as he could knock them over. He is still lively as an 8 year old. With his family in Teddington. Comes into our kennels on Thursday

Walked Asher today. Doesn't seem his age at all. Don't know if it is being in kennels after all this time in a home but he pulled and he is strong. I used a harness, maybe he is better on a lead? He would have kept walking but I kept it slightly shorter this time. He has settled well in kennels it seems and was pleased to get back to see Graham - a waggy tail. He is a big boy and would seem to be one of those dogs who it may take a little longer to get to know but it is worth the wait.

Well I feel I started to get to know Asher a bit better today. He still pulled quite a bit but was a lot more controlled but he definitely is more settled and related a lot more to me on the walk. He is probably starting to come to terms with his new life but hopefully he won't be waiting too long to get back to his old routine in a loving home.

Managed to get Asher out again on Friday and he is now responding really well. A sweet boy who knows his mind but is happy to cooperate after gentle persuasion Much more settled on his walk. Had a nice fuss from my daughter. Was very calm when we approached a great dane who was doing a bouncing wriggling escape act. Let's hope he finds a loving home before winter sets in.

Asher was my lunch partner today and we went to the local pub beer garden. He had a lovely welcome from the staff and he had a nice drink of water brought out to him. He sat down nicely while I had my coffee but tried to join me on the seat when my sandwich arrived - but got down straight away when told. He was such a good representative for the breed and I asked if it was ok to bring a dog in when I walk them and they were happy. I can imagine Asher having a regular nice walk to the pub and enjoying the chill out time there and all the people. Such a good solid dependable older boy but still full of life and energy.

Had a lovely run in the field with Asher today and he was joyful
He loves to run and couldn't believe it when I started jogging him instead of the usual walking. He is a treasure and someone is going to be very lucky to have him

Asher had a visitor today who chose him as a possible dog to take home with her. Asher came out of his kennel with a keen energy and used the paddock to have a good sniff around; send some 'p mail' and yes say hello and how are you. We were both taken aback at his beauty; his glistening coat and radient health. His fitness and lovely fun energy ..no one would guess that he was 8 years old. Lovely dog yes she did swoon but her original lady had already claimed her heart..Tiger Lily. She is going home to talk to a neighbour who has lost her dog and may well be interested in such a lovely lovely boy.

I managed to burn off some of his energy jogging along the path so we then had a lovely settled walk. He does a lovely sit when asked. Tried a halti on him but he wasn't too keen so let it go. A pleasure to spend time with but does have a stubborn streak but what older man doesn't

Asher had a lovely run around the paddock today, then a short walk along the field. He has the solid feel of a labrador. He is fun and a truly fab. dog. Beautiful colouring and in such wonderful condition.
You just know this dog is going to make a wonderful family's dreams come true. Lets hope he is sitting down to Turkey with all the trimmings this time next month. He deserves it!

Asher is such a distinguished character. We went to lunch together today which met with his approval but going back again was another thing I persuaded him that I wasn't going to go back in the pub and headed home
Not the best pictures but do show his character.
Surveying the world:
Aren't I sprightly for my age?
I do a lovely sit.
I love cuddles

Asher went out with Sophie and Carl today just to give him a bit of variety and meet new people, and he probably likes a change from his usual walker - me Hopefully when they join the forum they will update too.
