Posted: Tue Jul 28, 2009 11:16 pm Post subject: Becky Staffie Jan 08 Portsmouth
Her Story:Becky was found by her vets 4 miles from her home. Her owners were contacted and said they didn't want her anymore. She was great with the grandchildren, a warm and affectionate dog, but they didn't have time for her. She had at least 3 other homes.
Salient points: Slender frame happy Staffie. People and child friendly. Needs gentle introductions with dogs then mixes well. Learning to tolerate other dogs if they growl. Can be left and non destructive.
Advert:Becky is such a pretty little dog who meets dogs well providing she is on a lead and confident. She has just spent her 2nd birthday in kennels. Becky is a lovely family dog who will be snapped up by a Staffie enthusiasts or simply a dog lover. She isn't bouncy, she isn't destructive; she is housetrained and is affectionate. She can be left. Happiest to be integral to a family and it's activities. Becky will need a secure garden and pleasant walks nearby. She needs time to settle with other dogs so would prefer not to have visiting dogs or to live with another..why share all that love!
Becky is small and pretty; In fact she is very girlie and pink! So lovely, appealing and very pleased to have affection and returns it in abundance. Becky is a light frame Staffie which helps the public to accept her as the press have wrongly educated them towards 'Staffie phobia'. Becky will win over doggie friends and enjoy her family given the opportunity of a fresh start and a new beginning. Becky is a super dog who happens to be a Staffie. You'll be lucky to get her!
Please visit Becky's individual thread, in Dogs needing homes in Kennels on our Forum to find out more about her and follow her progress.

"Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".
Becky's thread below giving her background and progress through our Rescue:
Becky was found stray on Saturday and bought into a vet practise. They found she had a microchip and contacted the owners who turned up an hour later. Then they turned around and said they didn't want her anymore. She was found about 15 mins drive from their house and they just didn't seem perturbed. She is always getting out. But then promptly said she has never been socialised with dogs.
After trying all the rescues we responded and have come forwards for her. The vet is spaying her for us tomorrow. We are arranging to collect Friday. Met Becky this afternoon.
Many of the vet staff own staffies and they apparently were in tears reading Trudy James's "Just a Staffie x" poem on Staffie Rescue this morning. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Little Becky is now in our care in Croydon kennels Bless her what an ordeal she has been through in one week. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Becky has moved in with Laura and Antony as companion to Fiddler. We are trialling the adoption as although Backy relates well to dogs we have to know she can live alongside an older dog. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Sadly for all Becky comes back tomorrow. She has done really well in so many areas but needs a more secure garden and perhaps to be an only pet. She is a sweetheart. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Becky is back with us. In gratitude to Laura and Ant she has been given a wonderful time. They really tried to make this Becky's home. Sadly she got out of the garden when unsupervised and had a go at a passing dog. A high percentage of terriers will if unsupervised will rush in on introductions. However there is the recognition Becky needs a more secure garden and slightly less challenging set of circumstances. She has proved herself in so many ways and we are confident she will make a wonderful family pet to a family who can continue to work on her socialisation which she is improving on so much considering her lack of socialisation in the past. Becky you'll get there.. thanks to the help you have received by those who love you. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Having to return Becky has been heartbreaking for both Ant and I but unfortunately we were not able to offer her the type of home she needed. It took her about two weeks to settle into our routine but once she did it helped her to relax knowing what was expected of her.
Becky is a superb dog in many ways and it is obvious that somewhere in her past someone has taken the time to teach her a lot. She is a real foody and will do pretty much anything for a treat, she knows sit, paw other paw, down, wait, stay, heel, leave and we had started to teach her to play dead. She also went off lead regularly and her recall was fairly good but again with treats she would come back easily.
She was left for periods during the day whilst we were at work and she seemed to be fine with this and she didn't seem at all destructive. She did however think my pink fluffy slippers must have been a toy but gave them up easily! She is a very quiet dog and we only heard her bark a couple of times, on both occasions it was because she was unsure of something. The big monsters out in the field in the dark was her best attempt, once she realised it was our horses she calmed right down and was happy to carry on trotting about!!! She didn't even bark when the door bell was rung and looked very confused when Fiddler barked!
Becky came with me to the horses most days and was quite happy to occupy herself. I'm not quite sure what she thought of them but she did seem to want them to play with her. She ended up having a couple of nips from my boy as she keep running under his head when he was tyed up. She also came out with us when we hacked a couple of times and wasn't at all phased by having a half ton beast beside her. I also lunged my boy and she quite happily came and sat beside me and never even attempted chasing him which I was impressed at. Fiddler likes to run round with him on the lunge as did my previous Staffie!!
She has been well house trained, in just over four weeks of having her she only had a couple of accidents inside, and both times this was our own fault. She is very discreet in her way of requesting to be let out, and tends to start pacing a bit won't settle, however we did learn quite quickly on this one!!!!
Becky was brilliant with her food, bones and toys and if you wanted it you could easily take it from her with no questions asked. Her toys, if anything took a little more persuassion than a bone, as she would then decide that rather than give it up she would like to then play tug of war, again once she realised what you wanted she would leave the toy and be very pleased that you wanted to throw it for her. She would also happily sit and wait for her food until she was told she could tuck in.
Becky seems to adore the car to, she will get in with anyone!!! My dogs have always travelled in the boot but this little lady didn't think that was good enough for her!! To start with she would like to jump from the front to the back and back again, however she soon learnt that sitting on the back seat was much better as we didn't fall over or off the seat when going round corners!! When ever we got out of the car she would watch us like a hawk to see where we were off to and was so pleased to see us again even when we had only got out to open the gate to the field!!
Whilst with us she met many of our friends and family and on every occasion she was perfect with them, she is a typical Staffie and really loved the attention and was happy to lick and lick and lick and lick them to show you how wonderful she thought everyone was!!!!!
All in all this little lady is lovely and is extremely intelligent with bundles energy and a character to match. We both hope she finds a great home because she really does deserve it, with a little time and patience she will blossom.
We love you lots Becky and we will never forget you.
P.S We will attempt to post the few pictures we have of her as soon as we can[/img]
Took little Becky out for a walk today. Very sweet girl. Into everything but not hyper. A little worried by some scary things but settled as soon as she realised it was ok. She demonstrated her sit and paw to me when we sat in the park for lunch.

Walked Becky today. Nice little Staffie. Not particularly reactive to other dogs in the kennels. good on the lead.good round the sheep. Very quick to learn the "steady" command as she got to the end of the extender length.I liked her a lot
Becky was a pleasure to walk today A little worried by those sheep but settled when she realised they were ignoring her. Her nose is healing nicely now.

Becky pretty little Becky. Becky was viewed today and had 2 lovely trips out of her kennels..BeckyBecky that was close. An adorable girl you are!
Becky isn't doing well in kennels she still is thin and is scurffy. More to the point her energy is a little flat..slightly depressed or just sad. I had to instruct the 'interested party' not to feel sorry for her and choose her on that basis..it is difficult because after our rescuers want to 'save'. "She will soon be in her home" All we can say Becky you are a catch and your time will come very soon.
