Homing Requirements: Very loving terrier who is 'needy' for cuddles and belly rubs. Stanley was a spoilt only dog with an elderly couple..but with matter of fact management complies and is very subservient. Can protest on being left but settles with routine and reassurance on return. Needs to be 'integral' i.e. on the furniture and laps. Not to live with children as can get startled if approached when asleep. Not for cats/ small furries. Multi dog household would suit and keep Stanley in loved dog role rather than baby. Needs terrier experienced home who can reassure & keep Stanley fluent, with you setting the agenda. Non moult.
His Story: Stanley was treasured by an older couple who didn’t understand his terrier ways. He has spent too long in kennels awaits the right home.
Advert:Stanley is a handsome 5 year old Lakeland terrier with a loving nature. He loves to sit on your lap or watch you going about your daily tasks. He can become dependent on your presence but after protest, is happy to sleep on the sofa waiting your return. Stanley doesn't like to be closed in. Stanley needs his comfort zone kept 'fluid'. He needs the balance of his role as ‘companion pet' i.e. access to sofa, sleeps near bedroom (not kitchen) whilst living an ordinary relaxed doggie life. Stanley mixes well with dogs generally once relaxes with yourself. If living with more than one adult he needs awareness geared to multiple bonding. Stanley settles with other dogs but will need to work through his 'only dog' conditioning. He walks beautifully on the lead, occasionally "sparkles" when a dog comes close- most times is fine, with relaxed, confident management. Stanley has a non-moult coat which needs grooming every 4 months. Not for cats or small furries.
Stanley mixes well with respectful visiting children and people, excited initially but soon settles. Needs a home that understands his terrier nature and makes allowances so he can enjoy his nature also! Stanley is a super terrier, such a tender soul. The key is setting to tone and reassuring Stanley that all will be well and he doesn't need to control any of it..we have everything in hand...enjoy!
If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.
"Please note Stanley is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found"
Stanley's thread below: He has had 1 homing for 2 months whilst with us but needed firmer matter of fact management as was setting the agenda. 2 fosters; one foster got a job and so needed to return; in the other Stanley became interested in where the cats were!
Stanley came into us today from Essex (we had his younger sister in). Lovely chap, he has done really well in kennels and although a little nervous to meet, he let me put on his leash and away we went. We shared a lovely walk with Pooch a Staffie. Here is Stanley...
Stanley was living with an elderly couple who found him too much. He is neutered and vax'd. He meets most dogs really well and walks so nicely with them. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Stanley as down in the dumps today. We took him out on a social walk with Jay and Chleo and his spirits soon lifted. Lovely Terrier. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Poor Stanley - loved this picture of what he does in his spare time. It looks like our kitchen did once, the day we found out why Tee-J shouldn't have a soft bed!
Stanley seemed brighter yesterday. Lovely walk through the woods and on the common. Flea treated and cuddles galore. Sweet love. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Lovely, lovely Stanley.. had a lovely walk with Mac - then a rest, then another walk, then a rest, then another walk, then a
and again..
and just for a change ..
We came to the conclusion that he was trying to have the longest walk of the day and "pretended" he was tired so he could stay out longer.. needless to say it was a very long and painful walk.. but we didn't mind one bit coz he's a lovely boy and we enjoyed his company. Clever boy this one
At Last Stanley's time has come and oh to such special people and a very very special companion Fox Terrier called Alice So Stanley and Alice like a Victoriana couple are getting to know each other and Alice is learning to share her life with a new friend.

Hi Lynne & Dee,
Thought you'd like to see these photos of gorgeous Stanley happy in his new home. We had a good trip back - he is very good in the car, phew! Had a bit of a pop at Alice once, but soon settled and they both slept peacefully. We stopped off at Beaconsfield services as we'd had no lunch, and Paul walked them together while I bought the food - no problems, they walked fine together. Then when we got to Aylesbury, Paul took Alice off for a walk round the neighbourhood while I introduced Stanley to his new house, all the rooms, garden & his new posh bed! We stayed in the garden while Alice came in and there have been (touch wood!) no further scraps. He is extremely affectionate, following me around. He's had a bath (khaki water!!) and didn't like it, but very accepting and sweet and loved the rub down afterwards and the shaking! Now smells much sweeter, of lavender! They've had supper - neither are huge eaters (?) despite the competition but he had a good feed and has been relaxing in the garden. Only one bark so far - when he saw his own reflection in the garden mirrors.....big growl 'who's THAT?!' We have just started to leave them alone downstairs for short periods to get him used to it - always making sure we come back soon! He is currently scratching at the door, but no other noise!
Thanks so much to both of you. He is a real treasure and we're both sure that he's made our little family complete.
We'll speak soon!
Love, Rachel, Paul, Alice & Stan xx"
And here is our boy having a break from being a busy family pet :
Stanley comes into our Farnham kennels this afternoon as a much loved dog. Sadly despite every good intention Stanley's home hasn't worked out mainly due to his emotional needs being very evident and needing to cling, to the exclusion of Alice his companion dog's needs.

Although it was very difficult for everyone involved, Stanley is now at the Farnham kennels. He is settling in well, with his familiar things and some new bits and pieces to play with. All the girls at the kennels came over and said hello so he is getting lots of attention.
He has gone into Jaspa's old kennel, where it is slighly quieter but he can see other dogs and general comings and goings. He was happily playing with his Kong when I left and I will take him out tomorrow.
Stanley is slowly finding his feet. He is eating well and slept all night. He was a little nervous when he was let out for a run this morning but Dilly walked around with him to start with and then he was happy to explore himself. Dilly is spending some extra time with him at the moment.
We had a short walk out this afternoon and because he is still slightly unsure of things, he was on his very best behaviour.
All in all, a lovely little man and I am looking forward to getting to know him better.
Stanley still hasn't totally settled and is still being very submissive. I am going to keep a very close eye on him over the next few days as I think he might have been a little hot today and his eye was slightly gungky - I am just hoping it is not the first signs of kennel cough
The good news is that he is still eating well and is starting to enjoy his walks. Just occassionally I get a glimpse of the cheeky little monkey I know is in there He has already sussed out that when we get back, there has to be a nice sit and then something good to play with and treats come out of the box in the kitchen. He also knows that they are only delivered once we get back to his kennel.
Out on our walks he is still not completely sure of himself and sticks very close by. If I call him he immediately rolls over and shows me his tummy. He has meet a couple of other dogs out on our walks and done very well.
I just hope he settles soon as I know there is a cheecky chappy in there - Janet is going to take him out on day next week, which I am sure will do him no end of good
