Homing Requirements: Archie needs to live with another confident dog. Archie's one issue is initial trust. He can come forwards but right tone of voice and he is reassured usually by his handler. When meeting dogs he gives an intro. jib; many Collie x Shepherds can do this. Archie needs controlled introductions to dogs; gets concerned with people coming too fast; too close. Good around horses! He is adaptable and proven living within a pack of dogs and in foster with dog confident people family. Not to live with young children. Gentle natured.
His Story:Archie was found stray as a 8 month pup in a dreadful, nervous state Jan 09. He was unclaimed. His confidence has grown 100 fold since then and he has matured into a truly beautiful dog. Archie is neutered, chipped and vax'd.
Advert:Archie is 80% German Shepherd. His ears however suggest a complimentary influence perhaps Collie. He is young, around 18 months old and sensitive by nature! Archie is a loving dog who bonds well. He loves being out and about, interested in everything and does well in crowds funnily. Archie loves travel. He is very chilled when in foster with the horses, loves water - the hosepipe is one of his favourite games. Archie's confidence comes from his handlers. Currently in foster with other GSDs and enjoying a holiday from kennels. A really good boy.
Archie mixes well with dogs and his submissive nature shines through, after inital nerves. Other dogs are pleased to have him around. Sadly the only thing he needs work on is barking and coming forwards when he sees other dogs, people or traffic approaching fast and close. He obviously got a scare when stray. If you love Shepherds and if you have met the Shepherd x Collie mix before, you'll know he is a whow. He will trains well. He loves being out and about or pottering at home. Superb dog. Looking for his forever home with a fab family.

Archie's thread below: see his progress through our rescue Archie was found stray and very timid. He came into kennels and we neutered him yesterday. Today we transported him to Chertsey for the day with John Biggsd where he has been overcoming his nerves...as you can see.
Archie started out feeling the ugly duckling in with his big shepherd friends but soon chilled and said hey great I know myself to belong now and into what family at last!
Biggsd have agreed to sponsor his kennel for us for 2 weeks so we can get cracking looking for his home.. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
He is reactive to traffic on-lead, but in the fields which runs parellel to a private driveway (which has many cars up and down it all day) he is totally unreactive.
Same as when he reacted to a small pony who came to say hello today when being walked. The other side of our field is full of horses. He was nose to nose with one of them when he first arrived and now doesn't even look at them.
I am going to dig out a Archie sized Halti to try and curb his strength a bit on-lead.

A little unsure of the vet to start with, but within 30 seconds he was rolling over and having a tummy tickle. He had the jab with no reaction and even sat patiently in reception and waited for Chaz to be done.
Archie is looking at me as his handler and tends to turn his eyeballs inside out to catch sight of me. This was noticed by other staff members. Spud has done the typical GSD bonding with a handler thing and we are now going to try and wean him off of this. I am going to take a step back and let other people deal with him for a few weeks as he is being extremely well behaved with me and taking no notice of anyone else!
For example, we are currently working with Archie because he has a nasty habit of barking at cars. Therefore we have invested in a Archie sized Halti, muzzle and two seperate leads.
We started by using my car to drive up and down the side of the paddock. Very little reaction until he was on the lead. It is definately a handler issue (ie feeling that he must protect his handler).
So...next thing was that he had to sit at the side of the road and watch traffic with two people holding onto him (each one holding a lead for safety). I just stayed there to see reactions.
To start with he barked at every car. He was chastised for this. Within about 5 minutes he was sitting quietly watching traffic and getting a huge fuss everytime he ignored the traffic.
Until a lorry went past. The loud engine was very exciting to him, but he has learnt 'Leave it!' and after another two lorries he understood he had to stay quiet.
However, he was totally focussed on me even though I wasn't holding the lead and if I stood behind the traffic he turned his body round and watched me rather than the road. Which was going against the point!
My two work colleagues Rachel and Lizzie are going to take him for a walk up a quiet road tomorrow whilst I hold the fort at the kennels to try and get him focussed on what we are trying to teach him!
I will update as things happen, but so far Archie is becoming more interactive with strangers and far more aware when we are teaching commands...he is finally listening to us!

Archie was out in the paddock and I called his name..he ran over, looked and raised himself on to the netting. I moved towards him expecting him to bark ..not a bit ..we had a wonderful encounter with licks through the mesh. Archie is gaining his confidence and I aim to walk him next week, as I so wanted to yesterday, but ran out of time. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Yep! Archie has a girlfriend!
The lovely boy has paired with Holly and I think that this is going to do wonders for his confidence. Archie is hard to read really. He has all the front but once faced with a dog he just wants to play. He is afterall just a puppy.
So we gave him a nice surprise this afternoon by putting him out for his afternoon exercise and then chucking Holly into the middle of the equation too.
This Sad-Archie that I first saw...
...has certainly changed! He is a joyful and happy boy now and although he has issues to be worked on (cars!) we are getting there.
Archie needs a confident handler. He looks to me as his handler at the moment and is very well behaved round cars considering what he was first like. It is literally just a young dog that has not been socialised properly and with time and effort will be fine.

Archie has now found a new partner in crime...Derek. Derek was white, but turned into his kennel today a lovely brown colour today after Archie had rolled him about like a bit of dough in the mud.
What can I say...they had fun.

There was me thinking Derek would be a calming influence on Archie......
Archie can be Derek's ears and show him a wild time too!

Archie leaves our care tomorrow to go into a foster home. Happy or sad? I am just not too sure as he is so lovely once you get past that shell of his. But he can't stay forever I guess...

Hey everybody well what can i say about this bouncy boy. He has settled in really well. Vixen him are already firm friends and even Dudley seems to be very happy that they are all running around together.
I left all the dogs for a few hours yesterday and no probs at all. He loves his pigs ears as his daily treat.
I have had the gates open quite allot of the time so he can see people cars kids and other strange things he is getting used to the relaxed way of life here. When the weather gets a bit cooler i will start work out on the lane with cars and general traffic. The car park is completely manic at the moment with the weather being so great.
