Sweet Dexter your beauty so captivating. Wish that we could make life less complicated than you found it..we offered you Peace and know that you are now at One with that very real tangible Peace.
Dexter's video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub-PVuwX5_k Homing Requirement: Dex (Dexter) needs a dog experienced family who can allow Dexter to build human trust further and overcome some difficulties encountered as a puppy. He needs to live with calm canine role models, perhaps not terriers, as long as his owner understands terriers. Dexter is neutered, vax'd and chipped.
His Story: Long story, Dexter bit original owners never learnt to control his energy. He bit on occasions
and were mis-advised not to touch him or offer contact effectively lead them to pushing him out of their pack and Dexter becoming defensive. Dexter has learned to trust but he now needs a consistent home setting to achieve the therapy and training which has been begun with his fosterers.
Advert Dexter is young, bright and shows talent for agility. He is great to live with other dogs and althpough mixes well outside is muzzled as for some reson Dexter can get fluttered with some dogs particularly high energy. Dexter we think has a few autistic traits. He needs a routine which he understands. He can get flustered with swift energy directed towards him until he has build trust on his terms, so needs an adult household where children do not feature, unless occasional respectful visitors. He is still learning and maturing. Dexter has turned a corner in his foster and beginning to display normal playful behaviours and becoming accepting of new dogs and people entering his life sphere. achieves consistent messages and builds trust, he will calm and lose occasional defensive responses. He has biten.
Dexter needs to live with at least one other dog ... not necessarily a terrier, but his owners do need to 'get' terriers and appreciate that you respect them and never pitch your wits against them. Dexter needs to learn to enjoy ... you know how serious terriers can be! 'Weight of the world on their shoulders'! He now has a good foundation, just needs to learn to trust, a good canine role model & patient, sincere owners!

Dexter is settling in very well. He is understanding his place in the pack and is interracting nicely with our established terriers. We let him sleep in a bed in the kitchen after a little cry he settled down for the night. Got up to him this morning, no chewing or destruction, no accidents either - what a star!! He went out to do is business and ate a good breakfast. He walks beautifully on a short lead and will sit and wait on command; not surprisingly he has absolutely no road sense! He is obviously very intelligent and is enjoying playing with toys that take skill and a bit of brains!
Dexter is beautiful and has so much potential wiith a little bit of time, patience and more experiences he will be a star!
He is spinning madly when he gets over excited or stressed. If you call him and distract him he will calm down very quickly. He is watching our other dogs to have an idea how to occupy himself, I don't think he has had a chance just to potter round a house or garden before and he isn't sure what you are supposed to do.
He is calming down about the puppy crate too. When we brought him home he spun round and round inside the crate bouncing off the sides. We have put the crate in the house with the door open and we are just leaving him to explore it. He has had his head in there this morning for a look but he is not confident to get inside. Not using a crate isn't proving to be a problem as he is such a sweetie. Washing the pots this morning he just quietly sat on my feet and waited for me to finish.
Dexter moved homes today..he is now in with 3 other working lakeland terriers with Heidi and Peter. Can't wait to have an update! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Hopefully she will join the Forum and keep us updated. Mackie, Molly and Myah are being good teachers and 'Dex' has already understood Heidi and Peter are in charge! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Initial Update:
Hi Lynne
Asleep at last so I have time and energy to get on mail, I would like to change name but Peter likes it so I am calling him De which is short and he is reponding well. He is certainly a mixed up little man we can only guess at some of the things that have happened to him but he is learning from mine and I am giving clear commands when he is right and wrong so he will get there in the end. I can scan pics in so I will try to get some to you soon.
will be in touch
Heidi and Peter
Lastest update
Hi Lynne
All still going well he is coming on in leaps and bounds my others are teaching him so much.
A muzzle for the things he doesn't like(towel drying and grooming) takes all the stress out so he growls which I tell him is good as I want him to warn me he is unhappy but he gives so much love and is much more relaxed now.
Next update soon
Heidi
Pictures spot which one De (Dexter) Molly also came via terrier rescue and then there is Myah and the senior member of the pack Mackie yes all 'working' lakies!

Sadly Dex's sister's relationship has broken down and he finds himself unable to keep his nose out of it. The situation has become too stressful for all and we are looking for a new home for Dex _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
I do have one question----- When can you take my lot for training? _________________ " Dogs lives are too short , their only fault really . " Agnes Sligh Turnbull .
Dee had a lovely long walk with Mags today...
I think they would have preferred Sue & I to be a bit more energetic :|
Just a pup - so hard to see him in kennels
Met this handsome young man yesterday, and I had lovely nuzzling through the kennel door and how gentle he was when taking a chew - nice young man, wanting to make friends:)
