Posted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 5:37 pm Post subject: Ringo Staffie DOB Feb 07 Gatwick (S) Kennels
Homing Requirements: Ringo needs a Staffie family ..and they will delight in him he has ll the best sttributes of what makes a Staffie a treasured breed. Meets dogs nicely outside, instincts to welcome and play. But like staffies more interested in people than dogs. Not off lead but easily managed on lead. Old scar on his side which isn't a fight scar (tend to be on the head and neck occas. hind legs) poss caught on something- no other scars. Secure garden and exit management like with any terrier eg gates not left open.
His Story: Ringo was found stray in Eire. It is difficult to home staffies in Ireland due to rented property not allowing Shepherd; Rotties or Bull breeds. After 2 years in kennels a rescue approached us and we took him in and gave him his best chance. Ringo is a brindle Staffie with charming pointed ears. A friendly, calm and loving character. Neutered, chipped and fully vax'd.
Advert: Ringo is a handsome Staffie who is gentle, kind and dotes on people. Here is part of his report having spent a day out of the kennels "We met a few other dogs around and Ringo was slightly interested but no real problems, and very keen to meet people. He seems to know 'Sit' and happily did it several times for us. He's got a lovely nature and his tail was wagging furiously whenever he ran up to us. In a short time he'd changed from the crazy energetic dog we got out of the kennel into a much more settled companion who enjoyed his walk and loved being around us."
He is a charmer and really has to be met to appreciate how his sharp ears just dont suit his soft character. If you've had a Staffie before, Ringo will be top of your list for sure. Yes people appeal and he is clean in his kennel so housetraining shouldnt take long to kick in. Sadly Ringo had difficult beginning but staffies do! Landlord dont want dogs in their houses; family members dont come forwards for a Staffie and most rescues would rather not help a Staffie. Their loss! Ringo is gentleman to be sure - firm favourite!

hi we are a rescue in the west of ireland (with a no kill policy obviously) i am contacting you in desperation to see if youk can help find a forever home for our ringo. he is about three years old and has been with us for two. He was brought in in a poor state - bitten and scarred but such a loving boy. Typical Staffie lick us to death loves playing ball and tug of war. He gets depressed sometimes despite having two walks a day and lots of cuddles. He shows no aggression to the dogs in the kennels beside him although we had an incident not long after he arrived when he caught a lab coming through a narrow gate..just nerves. We have had a couple of Staffie bitches very young and he has enjoyed their company but he generally walks alone with us playing ball.
We love him to bits but he has no prospect of ever finding a home here in the west of ireland anyone who has been interested has been the type to want him to back up the hard man image.
having read your website and cried over it many times, i wondered if you could possibly help Ringo. If you could take him for us we would bring him over he is fully vaccinated and wormed and neutered i know it is alot to ask knowing how many you are trying to save from death row as you are a Staffie or Staffie x rescue he may stand a chance of someone chosing him. I am attaching some pics of him to us he would seem totally Staffie but you will be able to tell from his pics I can phone you to have a chat about him if that would help
Keeping our paws crossed ann

Ringo arrived off the Irish bus 7.45 this morning. We had a walk through the woods and out into the back field and seemed happy. He got a bit fired up with 5 Labradors the otherside of the paddock fenced but then it caught me by surprize . Walking through the kennel block he did rise to 'greetings' and met several dogs really nicely through the mesh doors.
Ringo reminds me of Freddie, slightly smaller; browner brindle coat. He sadly has a few bad scars along his side. ?Reflection of tough beginning. The staff where he was texted me 3x times this morning to find news of him. I have had to promise them he will go back to them if we cant find a home for him. Bless.
Photos not very good it was early morning and raining. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
He is obviously a well loved boy already
We'll fall for him of course, but let's hope his new owners do soon too

Ringo is obviously used to his home comforts, he is a chunkey monkey & enjoyed his walk but only as far as the stile then back to bed for cuddles, didn't get a good photo - but those ears!
Ann came over from Ireland and so wanted to see Ringo was safe and loved and cared for; He has been in their kennels for 2 years patiently waiting. We walked him in the freezing rain..none of us cared; we chatted and Ringo had fun. Well that was after he said hello in a big way to his long loyal friend who surfed the internet to find him a safe rescue place so he could find a good home. A good home we will find him. Pictures still not brillant but we will get good ones of him..

Tina D walked Ringo today, she said that he did cower a little when she went into his kennel to put on his lead. He seemed not to show much interest in any of the other dogs. However, he is definitely not cat friendly as he spotted the cats in the yard and reacted strongly. He was very sweet and quick to roll over for a tummy tickle.
Here's the boy ...

Poor Ringo did cower almost to the floor when i bent over him to put his harness on. He really does have some horrific scars on his side and cowers if he even thinks you are cross with him, really makes you wonder what his previous life was like
On the walk, he was the perfect gentleman. He did not pull on the lead and showed no interest in the other dogs at all, was just content to pootle along doing his own thing. He did try and refuse to walk sometimes if i was taking him the "wrong"way but soon moved on with encouragement.
It was hard to get a good picture of him as as soon as he was given a bit of love he flung himself on his back for some tummy-rubs!!!
Ringo was my choice today for a new walker becasue he is so calm and easy going. A pleasure to walk, an all round lovely lad this one

Alison gave me the induction at Gatwick South today, and when she had left, I took out Ringo, choosing somewhat haphazardly. No major problems putting the harness on (and he didn't escape!), other that it was nearly too small. A very nice guy who chugged along determinedly down the field and knows exactly where he wants to go... and where he doesn't, which includes the climb-over gate. "No, I am NOT going ANYWHERE near that thing!" So I spent 10 min luring him a bit closer, and when there was a slight improvement, we set off around the edge of the field. Fun was had by all.
Well done Chris W and welcome to the walking team. Ringo is a cutie and a very sweet boy so I'd say you chose well! If you stop and sit with him he is straight over on his back for tummy tickles - he just loves a fuss! _________________ SHARONR - ADMIN

Not sure if newish walker John is on the forum so will update on Ringo.
John chooses to walk Ringo because he is no trouble at all
They had a lovely pleasant walk around the village together. A beautiful easy going lad who is going to make someone a great companion.

Joined the lovely Ringo for a walk today. Very bouncy when I was in the kennel with him to begin with, and didn't see any of the cowering mentioned by others (lets hope those bad memories are starting to fade). Real little character who knows exactly where to go. Didn't like the sty though and need some encouragement before agreeing to scramble through. Quite happily splashed through the puddles whilst sniffing at everything along the journey. Enjoyed a good pat and cuddle on returning to kennel. Super little dog
My second walk today was a trip to the pub with Ringo - in the pouring rain. He hardly pulled today (and not hard), and trotted along happily. Great dog. While I had a drink, Ring sat calmly next to the bench. He loves getting his shoulder rubbed - he does this thing where his ear on the *other* side goes all flat against his head, and he pulls a grimace: you expect him to start purring any minute. A gentleman who was there admired him greatly and remarked how well-behaved and gentle he was.
Sometimes he needs a tiny bit of coaxing to get him through the styles or very muddy spots. Make sure his harness is not too loose, as he can pull back just a little, and we don't want him to slip it. But that's for a few seconds, and a cheery "let's go" gets him moving along. On our way back, he mastered the styles without hesitation.
