His Story Rex has had 2 homes before. The first weren't geared up for his Colliness and the second was as work companion but Rex was too young to spend his youth sitting in a van! He is now in foster with another dog and we are seeing his rich character come through.
Salient points Longhaired Collie with an intelligent mind keen to learn; to focus on activity and especially "fun activity!" Strong on the lead at this stage of his life and level of training.
Advert Rex means King ...and Rex is so much the King of Collies. He is a beauty and his beautiful mane and robes turns all heads. He is not a hyperactive Collie but is a young energetic collie who needs companionship and occupation. He would settle with another dog and tries to tame his energy into gentle dealings with people and dogs. We are seeing him with his 'kennel energy' but he will soon settle passed his excitement and signs are he is equally ready to chill. We have not cat tested him.
Rex is just 2 years old and is everything you would expect from a collie of this age and size. He hasn't had strict training but his temperament is well meaning and he tunes into expectation and focuses on reward incentives readily. Rex needs a dog experienced family who aren't bowled over by his 30 kilo weight/ size but appreciate his youth and richness of character and walk/ talk with him through his training needs to put the polish on his crown and have fun with this clown!

Rex's Thread is below:
Rex is a big Collie. He has 'big energy' too but then he is in kennels currently without access to the paddock because he refuses to go back in his kennel and leads the staff a merry dance.
Typical collie who is up for fun and adventure with a very loving side always to the fore. He hasn't received 'training' as such but we had a fun walk together but it was getting dark and I needed to get back for my own dogs so not long enough. He meets dogs well through the kennel doors and sides. Rex has had 2 homes so far with people that have love the idea of a trained collie...but hadn't realised what hard work is actually involved in achieving that goal. Rex needs a good sized secure garden with the occupation that comes from companionship, activity and social walks. His brain is idle currently. Rex has come on to our books and we will help him achieve his goal. A lovely boy who isn't actually complex but a collie he is and a big one at that. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
I met Rex for the first time today and took him for a long walk. He's a handsome, intelligent, affectionate, busy, high energy dog who would really benefit from some training.
He's pretty strong on the lead and needs to be doing something all the time, so we played with a tennis ball and I found out he can run like the wind! We kept losing the ball so ended up playing with sticks. He did grab the lead when he wasn't playing, but was easily distracted with another stick.
We met a few dogs and he was fine with them all but a bit too bouncy for a small one.
Rex barked at a cyclist and wanted to chase but was fine when I made him sit and wait until the cyclist had gone.
We sat down for a few minutes and he barked quite a bit but I couldn't see what he was barking at. I think he probably wanted to get on with his walk.
When we got back, he rolled over for a tummy tickle and he loves his head being stroked.
He's a gorgeous boy who just needs some direction.

He looks like a lovely boy!
My eyes are nearly recovered so for now I could give a hand with walks for this fella if that's any good? And possibly bring him for a day out (or 2) depending on if he's still around at the weekend and how Kimmy reacts towards him! You know her! Marian x
I walked Rex yesterday and thought he was fabulous. Full of beans, but in a very good natured way. Desperate to meet other people and dogs, with no ill-intent but just a bit too much enthusiasm!! I've always hankered after a collie, and if I didn't have the dogs I have right now, then Rex would be for me.....

Well I'm a big colllie fan at the best of times and this boy is one handsome fella!
What a clever dog this is. Anyone wanting to do obedience, agility or flyball look this way.
He is smart and learnt quickly that sitting nicely meant a treat. He did pull initially but again that smart collie brain realised that no pulling meant more treats and attention.
He walked really well and seemed to thoroughly enjoy being out and about. We did all sorts of tricks and commands to keep him busy and boy this dog wants to be busy. As with Cassie it would be lovely to see this boy out and running to get off some of that energy.
A real treat to walk and if I didn't have all my dogs and cats would definitely be interested Rex.
He arrived back tired physically and mentally and went really nicely into his kennel (with the help of sausage, of course). Let's hope this wonderful dog finds his forever home soon.
This morning Rex was joined on his walk by Indy, sometime foster sister to Rodney and she brought Rebecca long. Although Rex was bursting with energy, not having been out yesterday, Inde gave him the thumbs up and Rex hopped in the boot for the trip home.
Rebecca said he was as good as gold in the car and he and Indy had a good play in the garden when they got home. That is what Rex has been crying out for
Rebecca has given him a good going over with a furminator (fantastic comb) and promises to post some piccies of the new shiney Rex soon.
We can't thank Rebecca enough for offering to foster Rex on a temporary basis, giving him the opportunity to shine
Well my trip down south to collect this energetic ball of fluff was certainly eventful; Karen's phone apparently ran out of battery when i found my car stuck in the snow, personally i think she was trying to avoid pushing my car
Rex is currently spread eagle on my sofa, dribbling, what a man! We took a short walk around a few parks and houses this evening, not a single scuffle between the pair of them! Our grand finale was a walk down a road, testing the water so to speak. Happy to report Rex didn't give two hoots about the traffic - maybe it was because he fancies Indy. Oh yes, Rex certainly has the hots for my dog!!
Well i will leave you with this (somewhat blurry) photo until i get some good ones up. A picture says a thousand words really!!
Ahhh cinemagraphic joy; the beauty captured in his full glory..off to write his advert!!!! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
So we're 48 hours in with Rex, just to update on how he's doing.
It's quite clear he's not had much formal training so far, but i think that's by the by with Rex, taught him how to give 5 in the space of 15 minutes yesterday! Not a useful trick, however it just goes to show how quickly he can pick things up if you're willing to show him. At the moment he can sit, lay down, give 5, sit for food and wait for food. He particularly enjoys the "down" command, if he's not quite sure what you want, he'll lay down for good measure!! He's not mastered recall yet, so that's what i'd like to start in the next week he's with us.
At the moment whilst Rex is settling in he's been quite reactive to noises around him, he's not used to the normal comings and goings of life in a household. But over the past day he's getting used to our house and happily lays himself out and sleeps, occasionally to wake up rather confused, to then go back to sleep.
He's been getting on well with our resident dog, they happily sleep next to eachother in the evening. They've become quite relaxed in eachothers company. He meets new dogs with a lot of enthusiasm on walks, malice is never intended, but over time i think he'll need to learn to greet with the same care you'd give your grandparents rather than a sibling!
Traffic is an interesting one - only in the past 2 walks have i noticed it. It's not fear when he sees a car, more like a giant metal sheep on wheels! I've been walking him down a road at the end of each walk to try and get him used to seeing cars. Having grown up with Collies, this is something i noticed with them also.
So from our brief encounter so far, i think Rex has a promising future, yes there's still a learning curve for him - but with a dog as bright as this one i don't think that is a problem.
