Please meet the extremely lovely Reggie...

He is a beautiful Staffie cross baby who very nearly died today. Too many Staffies and not enough homes means many rescues turning them away.

Reggie was originally purchased from a free-ads advert and bought with a view to him becoming a member of the family.
Buying unassessed dogs is always a lottery and sadly Reggie did not appreciate being mixed with a Border Terrier who belonged to the new owners mother. He had a go at the dog, but the dogs age and circumstance should be taken into consideration.
The landlord of the property heard of the situation and demanded that Reggie be removed immediately.
The seller did not want to take him back and did not answer the phone to them.
But what do you do with yet another Staffie x? Obviously put him to sleep.
The new owners felt that they had no other option and had him booked in, which obviously they didn't want to do.
The fact that I had seen his picture made me involved and it was obvious that it was me or nobody at all. Sad

Reggie was transported to Surrey instead of the vets and he is now going to start a new and more promising life. Many thanks to the owners for travelling for four hours to get him to safety!

Reggie is about 5 months old and is a teenager. He is still in puppies clothing, but his brain is racing with hormones now. This will be alleviated on Thursday as he is going in to be castrated, microchipped and first vaxed. After this we can start to train him and socialise him easier. He is by no means a lost cause and at his tender age has alot of learning to do.

I have alot of confidence in this dog. He is great with people and very playful and a happy and affectionate boy. Just beautiful really! Cool

Reggie is doing so well! Very Happy

When he first came into kennels he was scared, shaking like a leaf and wouldn't look at anybody in the eye. If you fussed him then he would submit and the first night his terror was so great that he was physically sick with the trauma of the whole ordeal. Sad

Things are looking up for Reggie now I am pleased to say.

He has gone from a shivering wreck to an inquisitive puppy who is keen to learn.

Reggie met Murphy today and first intros were not so good. Both boys were unsure of what was expected of them and Reggie took offence to Murphy checking out his bits as dogs do.
Mark (a new walker who should update this thread soon) took him out for a walk and apparently by the time they got back Reggie was walking with no less than three other Staffies in a little group.

Proper intros go a long way in the world of doggies!

Nuts off for my boy tomorrow. He was so pleased with himself when he ate his dinner straight up tonight too!!!

Hi there, my name's Mark, I'm one of the newbie dog walkers and this is the first of hopefully many updates I'll be posting for various dogs. Very Happy

What can I say about Reggie? When I first met him in his kennel he was very nervous and shy, he took to the harness well and seemed keen to go walkies. As Emma described, the first introduction to another dog was a bit tense, but once outside I walked him about 20metres behind Murphy. Reggie seemed very keen on catching up, so much so he completely ignored the chickens and ponies in the adjoining field, they didn't faze him at all!
Once we caught up with Murphy (and Zoe, another new walker) the boys behaved impeccably, they started walking about 2m apart, their only concern seemed to be who was going to get wherever they were going first! As we continued, they got closer and closer until they were side by side even bumping into eachother on occasions which didn't bother either of them.
We eventually caught up with two other Staffies from the rescue who had stopped to talk to the Police dogs who were training in a nearby field!
All four dogs then continued for about 1km togther in a little Staffie family, at the turn round point Reggie seemed a little tired as he decided to flop in the shade of a tree. The other 2 dogs went back while we watered Reggie & Murphy, after a quick rest and some water Reggie was ready and off again. The return walk was just as enjoyable as the outward one, no problems whatsoever, he wasn't fazed by any of the cars, vans or cyclists who passed close to us, or by any of the farm animals in the fields. Although he was keen, he doesn't pull hard on the harness and after a two mile walk was walking almost at heel (only because he was a little tired).
All in all a very pleasurable walk with a lovely chap. Very Happy

Walked Reggie today and he is a little sweetie - just a puppy and oh so interested in everything, little waggy tail on the go. Some dogs are so focussed on the walk that they hardly seem to notice you but Reggie looks back every now and then with those beautiful eyes of his. Getting his harness on was a game! Eventually managed and although he pulls he is only small so easily controlled at the moment. Gives big staffie licks with a little puppy nipping there but it is all so exciting for him. He seems to be a sensitive wee soul. Reacted to the cattle who were being quite aggressive, but it was through fear. On the way back though we kept a safe distance and he was just a little wary. Fascinated by cars, bikes, joggers and anything really. He will soak up experiences and learning too I think.
