Her Story: A young Staffie found stray in Wales in the summer.

Salient points: Young and lively needs training and clear boundaries. Plays with the lead initially on meeting. Meets dogs well once settled.

Advert: Dainty and dear Phoebe, which means 'little bird'. Phoebe is a young vibrant Staffie. Slender in frame and delightful in nature. She is cheeky and has bounce. Being small can get away with absolutely everything ... well almost! Her owners will need to enjoy her energy or simply look for an older dog. She was a little shy of other dogs but has been gaining confidence. Playful and loyal. She will check you continually on her walk which bodes well for coming off lead in the future. Currently fostered near the New Forest.

Phoebe needs routine, basic training and a fair-sized secure garden. She is lovely around children but she'll need input and this would be too much on top of a young family. This is her time and we are looking for a family where her needs are central. After a few months of certainty, constructive occupation and socialisation, Phoebe, will delight all. Spayed, chipped and vax'd.  Isn't she lovely!

Please visit Phoebe's individual thread, in Dogs needing homes in Kennels on our Forum to find out more about her and follow their progress.

If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

Her thread is below:

Phoebe was due to be put to sleep tomorrow.  Just couldn't let it happen she comes on Friday

Light brindle/white Staffie girl. Very nervous and sad. Just look at those eyes.

Pretty little girl who is intelligent, loving, good with dogs meeting at their kennels and as proved with a chance encounter with Julia who decided she was going to join her fun. When the dogs in kennels had a go she shied back and looked for me to reassure bless. She is taking all this rescue lark in her stride and coping very well. She was found with a flea collar on which indicates her previous owners did care, however not enough to come and find her in the pound! Alyson's comments (Kennel owner) on meeting was "what a lovely dog she won't be with us long!"

Had a wonderful walk with Phoebe today. She was so pleased to see me; she is so connected on her walk. Once she has had the opportunity to mix well with dogs outside she will definitely be an off lead dog. However her confidence isn't there yet she jumped out of her skin when she heard a dog bark, met 2 labs off lead nicely; very alert hearing a plane go over and jumped out of her skin coming across a compost heap ?Dalek!

Walked Phoebe for the third day running but quite a different walk. Lots of lead play and wanting to jump up a lot. I could only put it down to using a brightly coloured plaited lead which she was mistaking for a 'plaited bone'

Phoebe had a lovely walk today. Yes she played with the lead but I initially ignored, then tried treatery then "came down on her like a ton of bricks" strong voiced to leave it! No! She lessened her focus and left it after about 4 tries and got into enjoying her walk.  Oh yes so lovely to see her free of the fasination of the lead. I try to walk her evey visit to the kennels and she is indeed a joy to walk.

I wasn't able to meet Phoebe properly today because she has a bit of a cough so is off to the vets for a check up. Looks a cutie though.

Took Phoebe out today with my friend Kim who walked Monty.  What a funny little dog!  She was quite naughty with the lead a couple of times but once told no very firmly she eventually forgot about it.  She is a sweety, she has so much energy but once she got going and she calmed down she was absolutely fine.  I tried to get her to walk on a halti as I have a dodgy back but she thought that was a rubbish idea.  I got her to wear it without the lead attached, obviously useless but we will try and build it up slowly.  She pulls quite hard on the lead and its making the skin under her neck a little bit red.  She knows how to do a sit for you, but gets it a bit wrong every time - her legs are all over the place.  Its funny you cant help but laugh at the little live wire.
She was desperate to play with Monty poor boy with her bouncing about.  He seemed pretty patient with her but because of his skin we kept them from rubbing up too close.
She is a really sweet little dog, I am sure that she will be much more relaxed when she has someone to love her and take her on nice long walks.
When I pick Rhianna up on Friday I will take her out again for a walk and have another go with the halti.

Phoebe was hyper again today..we had a long walk to do a homecheck for another Staffie. She ran free off the lead in their large garden then walked back to the kennels. Over an hour and a half walk in all. She did a lot of lead play which was generally ignored. She did managed to focus on her walk in intervals but her energy has become very 'keyed up' like Jessie's  She so needs more walks than she gets, ideally one a day, instead of 1-2 a week.

Phoebe and me got into a heated zone at the front of her walk! Nearly broke my nose whilst I was attempted to attach her lead then leaping and oh did she need to run!  I used a chain lead initially but then attached an extender to allow her to run off her energy. The chain lead wrapped itself around the extender so protected it from being held. I spoke strongly to gain her attention to let go of the lead..and after awhile she was listening. She then was gaining lots of approval everytime she came back and extra approval when she didn't attempt to mouth the lead..we progressed from leave it.. no..to 'Aaaht' when she went to touch the lead.

10 mins into the walk and she was focused ...into the walk. A great improvement on the last walk we had to together. We did enjoy our walk..such lovely flowers; grasses; sunshine and lots of "good girls". I gave Phoebe the longest walk as she is too young to cope with kennels so it is by way of an apology! Then Alyson took her stitches out..all done and dusted!

Met Phoebe for the first time properly today. Unfortunately I was not on top of my game because I was feeling under the weather so it took quite a little while for her to settle. Bounce bounce bounce even though it was a chain lead and she had nothing to grab. She really calmed a lot when she managed to get my goat by grabbing my sleeve and I told her in no uncertain terms that this was unacceptable Very Happy  Much nicer walk after that. She is so young and so in need of lots more walks and interests. She knows she can get attention from her lead grabbing behaviour and so she plays up. Next time I hope to be more active and on the ball. Had a lovely fuss back in the kennel though Very Happy

Walked Phoebe again today and she was much better behaved - just a mischievous bored puppy really  Very Happy  Given lots of fun and stimulation she would be much more settled. We had a good walk and apart from undoing my laces a few times and having a good bounce at times, she walked well on the lead. Take the time to get to know this little girl and it will be well worth while  Very Happy

Phoebe was overdue a walk. She came out very excited. Took about 15 mins to get her away from the lead THEN she began to enjoy her walk and knew touching the lead was definitely not appreciated. If she was walked more I'm sure we could really improve this one feature. Too young to be spending long days in kennels Crying or Very sad

Buds mum and dad walked Phoebe today. She was very good , came back when her collar broke, and behaved very well around Bud. The lead ragging is getting better I think
