Homed Homing Requirements: Henry needs a family with their feet on the floor type terrier experience. If you are holding his LEAD and controlling, he will meet dogs respectfully when he isn’t given an inch. If he is freewheeling at the end of a lead or off lead he will have incidents with other dogs. Henry is fine with older children but needs supervision around young children who should not be 'live in'. Terriers can get caught up if children are squealing and running and Henry is one. Secure terrier proof garden with exit management.
His Story: Henry was bought home as a pup to live with a 1 year old Labrador. Henry had a few incidents outside with dogs which made his owners appreciate they had a 'working type' terrier who needed a specific type of management. A baby's arrival proved too stressful for Henry. He was kept separate until we could take him in. Neutered, chipped and vax'd.
Advert: Henry is a great Patterdale who has a very affable feel. In terrier hands he is very malleable and responsive. He might become a loose cannon if he gets a sense his encounters are down to him. On the whole he is meeting dogs really well in our controlled way, where we promote trust. Henry has grown up with a Labrador who has always been his friend. Henry has never been allowed on furniture or upstairs. He is housetrained and travels well in the car.
Henry is a 'blue' Patterdale from working roots. He is a stunner and has a very loving sweet temperament to go with his looks. In terrier rescue he has proved himself a gem. He has a great attachment to his green ball, a little obsessive, so needs specific 'treat times' for it. Henry needs an active life style where his walks are about exploring, having a run and fun. He is a great companion.

Heart throb Henry is settling in & gaining a fan club
he had a lovely walk with SusieBee & Rocky & Tyson
although they didn't get a look in with his squeaky ball
beautiful boy beautifully behaved - I don't think he will have time to get too settled...
Really glad Henry has settled in well. We really miss him but are so pleased to see how well he is doing. He is such an affectionate little guy with a huge amount of love to give. He will make someone a great pet! Richard and Rachel _________________ Rachel&Richard
We saw him on Sunday and also saw how upset you were, Rachel, my heart aches for you it must be so difficult to be without him - you are right he is gorgeous and if you look at my little picture (I think they call it Avatar?) you will see why I think that way perhaps even more than others might. One thing IS for sure - you have chosen the right place for him. Kinder people than the RR volunteers I have yet to meet. Good luck x
Thank you. It's really nice to hear that he is doing well and that everyone seems to really love him. Hopefully he find a great new home and then I will feel so much better. They seem really great people at the kennels so know they are looking after him well. _________________ Rachel&Richard
Walked Henry today; Henry plus Green Squeaky Ball. Such a good boy, if a little reserved; walked beside me on a slack lead and seemed interested in what was going on around him. Carried GSB for the whole walk and gave it a cheeky squeak from time to time.
When we stopped half way I was allowed to play with GSB. Henry is very good at tossing the ball back as well as catching it. He also does a niffty mid-air catch, so cats and small furries probably need to keep well out of range!
My first session with Henry, 7 homings and 2 fosters this week have taken me away from the all consuming pull to get up close and personal with our Patterdale friend Henry. We met on arrival and through his kennel door since.
Henry welcomed me into his kennel and presented me with Mr Green ball. I proceeded to put a harness on, with Henry far more interested in interplay with Mr Green ball. I decided Henry needed a break from his ball so I picked him up. He did very well and accepted my handling and relinquished the ball's draw as his attention turned to the kennel door. Carried Henry through the kennel block, watching his reaction to large, barking dogs, leaping up at their kennel doors. I held him in such a way that if he got worked up, I wouldn't get bitten. He was only a little perturbed, no adverse reaction, no threat of biting. Out of the kennel block and paws on terrafirma, we had a little walk, then Henry jumped in the dogmobile. We drove to the local shops and there we shared a cheese sandwich. He travelled really well in the front seat with me and was occupied by the moving scenery on view.
On our return we set off on our long walk together. Henry has a jaunty little walk which was such a contrast to the previous dogs I had been walking. Interested in smell; exploring and 'everything'.
We didn't meet any dogs. Henry saw the horses and it was decided we would continue on our path and Henry was quite happy to do that. No problems in handling Henry…a little locked in his terrier world, which is what you expect from the “masters of terrier business”; our little Pattie friends.
