Homed
Homing Requirements: Fred's future family will own at least one other fluent dog. They will understand the patient, slow and understanding needed to enable Fred to develop skills, with staged exposure to life commenced within foster. Fred is not to wear a collar until February and always to have a harness for walking so no pressure is applied to his throat. Fred needs to attend our vets in Teddington in May so Rescue Remedies can review post operative outcome, we will pay.
His Story: Fred was held back as a Fell Terrier stud dog within breeding kennels. He sustained a bad throat injury needing surgery within the kennels and came to us with very restricted breathing and exercise tolerance. We did a major op, a one-off corrective procedure and he has made a very good recovery.
Advert: Fred is 4 years old and has just come out of his breeder’s kennels where he has been all his life. He is dog fluent and non-aggressive, has always shared a kennel with a bitch and enjoys the company of other dogs. Fred is enjoying human company and is receptive to approach and touch. He loves to be stroked behind his ears and tummy: naturally clingy, just can't get enough of what he has never had before … human companionship! Tolerant of household objects and noises as novel as they must seem. He has heightened awareness to movements rather than to noise, shying away. Fred has just had a major throat operation and made a very good recovery. We are using a harness, taking care not to involve his throat in walking. Fred has yet to start vaccinations, though is neutered and chipped.
Fred is a Red Fell terrier. He has a soft wire-ish coat which seems a contraction but true. He is learning to walk tall and is a hundred miles away from the original picture on his thread where he was walking with a stooped submissive back, though his nature remains submissive. Fostered in with a Terrier bitch who is getting used to having another dog in her house and Fred has been brilliant in sending no threatening vibes! Now beginning to walks outside, beginning to use the garden and enjoying love, both the giving and receiving.

Watch Fred's Thread below: See his progress through our Rescue Referral Details: Fell Terrier breeder wanting to move away from breeding Fell terriers "can't get good homes nowadays". Fred was playing in the paddock when we visited. He has been a stud dog all his life; has only ever known a shared kennel and the paddock once daily. Really lovely nature just so desperate for a chance.

I will donate shortly, won't be much, but every little helps
They all remind me so much of Marlow.
At last Fred is amongst us. Fred (Red) arrived with John today straight into Ian our vet. He is thin but a better weight than his relatives. He is nervous and a little clueless, bless. AND very handsome with a soft wire coat and blaze of white on his chest. Once he is neutered and 1st vax'd I will collecting him and placing him in Louise and Chris' capable hands with his foster canine friend.

Our vet attempted to put Fred under sedation for neutering only to find he had a severely damaged throat affecting his airway. This is restricting his breathing and his trachae is a 1/5 of the diameter it should be. Our vet needs to do a major op on his throat to open this appeture up, as it's current restriction is hindering his ability to breath and exercise normally. Ian is going to carry this op out next Wednesday. I have to keep Fred out of kennels to prep him for the op and to provide aftercare. Sadly he has missed his foster place and Pepsi will need to go into kennels tomorrow. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Fred just sits in his bed all day. A dear dear soul who just wags his tail furiously when you approach him in his bed. He does go in the garden but if you go near him and he lies on the ground. You can hear his breathing constantly like he has already had a tracheotomy. Just feeling so bad that he was the last of the ex breeders to come out and had we known he would have been the first. He would have been enjoying life to the full by now. A long way to go little Fred but we are on the road. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Oh fred you poor little man my heart goes out to you and all the other poor souls that were taken in from this breeder, it is beyond me how these people are allowed to even own a dog let alone breed them when they obviously have no real concern for their welfare why oh why aren't there stricter laws in this country at least now you are in the safest hands there is thanks to lynne and terrier rescue
Our little man is content to spend all day in his dog bed with a cushion to rest his head on. He needs gentle coaxing to come into the garden, giving lots of space and no sudden movements and it’s a waiting game. He was so pleased to meet Brandy today and it helped him to leave his bed to say hello and eventually have the courage to come through the door into the kitchen and into the garden. Fred also is eating naturediet (moist food) but leaving most of the dried. He did have a diet of raw chicken carcase for all his life so quite a change for him.
He has just Joy written all over his countenance. He kept nudging Brandy to play..fortunately Brandy doesn’t do play as I have strict vet instructions to keep him sedate and minimal exercise until his operation on Wednesday
