Cassie was the lucky one of three in a Kent pound. The pound has the mentallity 'too many staffies..would they ever find a home..so they do the deed after their 7 days are up' Some people who were there for her scraped up 2 weeks kennelling fee to find her safety. Spayed her last week and Emma vax'd and chipped her yesterday. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
OK met darling Cassie today. Saw her out in the field and was delighted as I had my camera on me ..called the work experience man to stay there..Cassie came bounding over to the fence and we made a fuss of each other. When I got into the field she was all over me like a rash. We could not get her to move away so I could photogragh her and the light was fading. So we just had to indulge her in lots of fuss until she simmered down. 15 long minutes later..

Cassie Cassie met you today and we enjoyed a walk together. I learnt a lot about you..what a diamond you are. You are very beautiful in your tiger skin coat..with eye lashes that glint in the sunshine. You have an ever-ready smile and such enthusiasm for the off ... catch up if you can. And I hear of stories of "flying maidens" scaling 7" fences..perhaps several attempts and you're over..to join the staff having their tea break. So tell us sweet Cassie how were you found stray?!
And we walked in the sunshine and you gave me such peace and interest to be strolling up this country lane with you..with your gaze all around..your interest engaged here and over there. Oh such a reaction from the farm Collie standing on the hill defining its territory and you looked slightly aghast But Cassie tell us what changed in you when you came a cross the chickens moments later ... excitement, enthralled, shocked and a nose poked here and there.

Cassie, oh Cassie thought we'd try a joint walk, but your level of excitement coming out of the kennels was such and we took it slowly ... no you didn't, it was a struggle to contain her enthusiasm!
Out on her walk with Mac she did really well. Curious to meet, but we waited for her energy to settle ... and when it did, she greeted Mac really well and they walked along side each other for a fair way.

Sarah is in love.......Cassie casts her spell again!
Cassie has come on so much and mixes so well with other dogs...Rod, Sarah's husband returning from his walk with Buster (staff) stated how well Cassie and Buster got on walking together. Buster was reactive to dogs last week! I don't know about spells more like magic potions going in these's dogs food bowls _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Hello Auntie Lynne, Auntie Dee, Auntie Sharon and all my forum friends
it’s me Cassie, I have arrived at Secret Squirrels den for my week’s holiday. I’ve had a good bath and feeling much fresher after my journey. Uncle Eddie assisted and held my collar while Squizz washed and dried me. I have had some chicken and rice. Don’t worry about me the accommodations cool.
In the car Cassie just sits on the front seat, she’s a good travelling companion, window watches then lies down. She’s a breeze to bath as the photos show and eats very gently. She spent most of the day in the car so on her first walk she pulled a little on the lead. She has explored the house and has paced a lot but that’s to be expected. At this moment she is flat out asleep. I noticed that when I put the gas fire on after her bath she moved away quickly then went back to investigate. Eddie who is in the photos is nervous of all dogs, does it show, he has played with her and she loves to mouth his hands in playfulness. The garden is booby trapped and Cassie will be attached to a large clothes line so she can’t escape. I hope to walk and socialise Cassie around the towns and the country side, to meet as many people as possible and get her used to me.
First impression she is a lovely natured dog.

Cassie is a very BRIGHT intelligent dog and knew it was her bedtime. 6.30am I needed the toilet and she gave me a lovely welcome, I quickly dressed and walked her to the grass verge for a wee. NOTE clean dog and no mess from 10.30pm to 6.30am
As I am typing this she has her paws on my leg wanting fuss. Today we walk on short leads as the lake has wildlife and I want her to walk at my pace. Hope the 2 mile trek tires her out.
Cassies out for the count, long walk. Will update later, here are some photos
The Mom liked Cassie, the children slowly introduced.
I had permission to add to website and forum
Auntie Sue very impressed, Cassie never even begged when eating our sarnies
Aint I a beaut
Cassie is so easy to put on the harness and so eager to stride ahead. Even after a 2 hour walk Cassie had energy to continue walking, she enjoyed herself and attracted attention from other walkers. The Mom thought she was lovely and introduced the children slowly. Cassie just wants to please with kisses. She never begged for food when we stopped for lunch. Showed interest in the swans and ducks was slightly bemused when the horses walked by. Cassie is very easy in the car again as a travelling companion.
I gave Cassie a jumbone and she allowed me to take it off her and give it back, very gentle mouthed. She slept all afternoon then we had another short walk, still enjoyed the chicken and rice and then 2nd meal butchers tripe and chicken. I have not attached the clothes line yet as find Cassie still remembers the back door is where the cats were yesterday. I have to lock the door with the key as I think she could open it, bright girl. We have walked up and down to the bin several times on the lead. Tonight we are meeting Lola a Staffie cross and heading for ‘street walking’
Message for Auntie Lynne, you never packed my walking boots.
I'm so proud of Cassie see for yourself
Cassie Lizzie (Lola) and John
We have just walked over a mile and John took Cassie, within 15 minutes side by side and at our pace. He is very impressed with Cassie and how bright she is. Lizzie was a rescue dog and has been with John 7 months. John is going to walk with me and Cassie next week.

Today we are window shopping at our local town centre.
Safari next
I love Mr Whippy well I am on holiday!
Autograph hunters - worn out
Cassie so loves company
Saturday we visited out local town, lots of traffic and people. Cassie not fazed by anything just enjoyed the fuss, smells and ice cream. Great idea ‘I need a home harness/lead' attracts attention. We just generally mooched and took photos to show Cassie in all environments. Today she met a King Charles spaniel, 2 cross breeds and 2 large greyhounds. Today I fed her ‘alfresco’ outside on the extension lead both times. Then tonight we decided to eat outside. Cassie was in harness and on extension lead, free to roam the garden, she just mooched was fascinated by a hard snail shell and no issues of trying to climb the fence but we were both with her at all times. Later Cassie had a long walk around the village crossing the playing fields. She so loves walks and so loves company. She’s now fast asleep.

Posted: Sun Aug 09, 2009 9:03 pm Post subject: Cassie's Country walkabout
Saturday night at 10.30, Cassie went to bed settled straight away. At 12 fireworks outside which woke me, Cassie never murmured. This morning I woke her at 7.15 for a wee, she is one of the cleanest dogs I have ever had. Cassie’s energy is high in the morning so she needs walking first thing. I feed Cassie outside on the extension lead
Cassie’s country walkabout in Dovedale in Derbyshire
Walking, swimming and loads of snuggles from Staffie fans. We met lots of dogs today all breeds and sizes at Dovedale. Cassie was well behaved and enjoyed the day out. We walked about 4 miles and still she had energy to carry on. She loved the water and strode over the stepping stones with ease. Cassie observes everything; we passed cows & sheep. I have to say that fostering Cassie has opened up my eyes to Staffies and people.
Just having a breather
Staffie Fans!
Nice 'Crocs'! This lady fell in love with me
Look at me on the 'Stepping Stones'!
The 'Baywatch Babes'!
Home Squizz, home ...
Tomorrow we are road walking with John and Lizzie.

Today I drove Cassie back to the kennels. She has spent a lovely few days exploring all aspects of life and winning friends. Cassie is a bright intelligent dog, she enjoyed the stimulation, socialising and walks. She welcomed meeting people in the house and outside. She enjoyed meeting young and old; little and large; human and canine. Her true personality shows in the photos. There are so many wonderful and positive attributes in Cassie.
And by the way she easily levers door handles open and will get to an open window or over a fence if there is in anyway a possibility. Cassie has spent far too long in kennels and will evade the lead to go back into confinement..she loves her freedom.
I hope her knight in shining armour comes soon to rescue her.
Arrived safe and sound

This has been a earthbreaking 2 weeks for Cassie through using offered goodwill and opportunities Cassie was amazingly placed in 'the eye of the storm' so we have been able to get to grips with her many many strengths, appreciate her magnificent qualities and understand the situations in which she finds challenging and highly frustrating. Initially Vicky's foster offer; then the heroic 'gift' and intense work secret squirrel offered to Cassie forming the foundation for her training programme to focus and play to those discovered strengths. Cassie has moved a quantum leap and is now able to truly prepare for her home which with an experienced bull breed or lurcher owner, possibly with another dog will free Cassie from the dreadful background.
Cassie well done. You have been offered a high degree of stimulation and shown your intelligence; your loving nature and your strength of character. We all love you. It sits so wonderfully that Lucy and Cassie now can share companionship thanks to Rachel. I'm so thrilled and touched yet again by the brilliant staff in the Croydon kennels. We have the "A team" we so need our own premises!! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!
Rachel took her on a different walk today to a park that is well known for its squirrel population. A squirrel popped out during the walk and ran right in front of her and she looked at it and then trudged on. We are finding it hard to get her to react when out and about on walks, but there is an area near us that has a colony of wild rats. She clocked these straight away just by the scent of them being about and was nosing about the place trying to pinpoint them. Rachel took this as a good opportunity to try and distract her and sternly told her to leave them alone and carried on walking. She tried to stay and sniff a bit more, but with a sharp tug at the lead she carried on.
Rachel plans to take rewards and toys with her next to try and get her to focus on her rather than scents.
The other idea that I want to do is on our break, get her into the orchard and opposite the cattery and just sit on the grass and get her to observe the cats in their pens as there is wire at the top of the pens that the cats look out of.
It is all to try and desensitise her to the fact that cats are there. Cassie is aware of where the cattery is being that she has walked past it numerous times when going out on her walk and she has spotted the cats many times, but now we think it a good idea for her to actually have to sit in a spot and enjoy a cuddle whilst getting some important training. The cats will not be stressed out as we will not sit near enough to them for it to affect them at all.
