Homing Requirements: Benny has brilliant dog skills and needs to live with another dog(s). Benny's key is he approaches you and then accepts intervention. Benny is collar sensitive, so not to live with children, supervision of visitors. Typical Lurcher he can be an opportunist with food left in reach! Benny is an off lead dog with awareness.

His Story: Benny found stray as a pup Feb 2010 and was brought up sharing his kennel with other dogs. He became collar protective when confined though accepted slip-leads. Benny has grown out of this but still needs sensitive approach where he initiatives advances. Brilliant dog with so much love on offer. Kennels in Farnham. Neutered and chipped.

Video: Showing how loving Benny is
Video: Benny playing

Video: Benny relaxing into home life and getting along in weekend foster

Advert: Benny is a young Whippet Lurcher, extremely loving and will be fine with confident, caring owners. Benny is great with other dogs; sensitive to those that don't play and a great player with those who do. He adores toys and will entertain himself and you for hours, throw them around or pounce on them although he won'teasily surrender his entertainer / ball! He has a joy about him and a very loving playful nature, sorry are we repeating ourselves!!! Benny is keen and alert when on lead but listens. Benny comes off lead, his recall is perfect, in fact he doesn't stray far. Benny easily becomes focused on fetching. Perfect manners meeting other dogs. Ever on 'squirrel alert' but returns and is distractable.

Benny is a small Whippet Lurcher. Keen beady eyes, focused either into loving you or outside on trees and horizon, but his heart still with his walker.  Very relaxed in his home and settles to watch and muse on the broad spectrum that life offers. He has a speaking voice which he used to relate his take on life, which is very amusing. Benny is enthralled with life and activity wouldn't he be spending nearly all his life in kennels. If Benny had been female we would have called him JOY!

Please visit Benny Whippet Lurcher DOB 09 Farnham kenns to find out more and follow his progress.

If you are interested in homing Benny please complete Our on-line Homing Questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

"Please note this dog is currently in boarding kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found"

Benny's thread below: Watch his progress through our Rescue
Referral Details: Benny was been moved from pillar to post. Feb he was in a large rescue centre up north then Sept he went into a lurcher rescue then into another rescue support. Found himself in a car heading towards a pure bred rescue but Dee having had pictures knew he would not be accepted. Fortunately for Benny and us, Dee talked herself into receiving Benny into our care. We believe Benny has spent a significant amount of his life in kennels. He is mouthy and can catch especially if movements are intrusive without negotiated receptivity or with a lead held as an exciteable object!

Our aim is to offer him safety; stability and begin to build a trust . Watch this space. Benny we are there for you. Benny arrived Thursday afternoon the 11th Nov...a day to remember.

Benny is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING love4 . He has a very dark brown maybe black coat with gorgeous gold flecks running through it. He has a very expressive face and lovely big ears that stand up. He sits beautifully and takes treats very very gently. Wendy and I spent a bit of time with him today in his run and although a little nervous he seemed happy to have some attention. We were very gentle with him and let him come to us. He was happy being stroked on his head and loved it when Wendy gave him a good old scratch behind his ears.

I can't wait to see the RR magic work again on another lovely dog who deserves a good home. It is so nice to know that this little fella has finally landed on his feet in a rescue that will bring out the best in him.

Confused The gorgeous Benny found himself travelling to Farnham on Thursday for another rescue but clearly he was not going to fit so Dee arranged for him to come under our umbrella instead - how lucky are we Wink

By the time I met him on Friday he had totally charmed the transporter and all the kennel staff. He is quite diddy, whippet size and lovely ears. Apparently he was not very comfortable in the van but very affectionate on arrival.

He sits so beautifully and offers his paw readily

He was extremely afectionate and loves his ears being rubbed but I was far too forward and when I tried to put a lead on him, he barked and ran for cover. After that he was a little timid with me and always watchful for what I might do. As there weren't any problems over leads in his previous placements, he obviously decided that I was being far too forward Shocked

Provided I didn't have the lead, he was very happy to indulge in cuddles

I left it for Friday as he had had to cope with entirely new surroundings and the Army bangs on top of new people. I really believe that given time to settle we are going to have one 'must have' doggies on our hands Wink He is certainly a nervous little boy and needs confident but respectful handling - think we can manage that Laughing

According to all reports his dog skills are very good.

love7 I am in love already too and find it so hard to believe he has already been in resuce since Jan

Well, with the help of some cheese I got a lead on Benny so off we went for a lovely walk.  Well, it was chucking it down actually but he didn't seem to mind!

He walked happily, and met a couple of dogs very well, once I'd realised that the crawling/stalking thing he did when he saw them was good natured, and not some sort of surprise attack!  All he actually wanted to do was play, bless him.    Wink

He comes across as nervous and confused, and really in need of someone calm and patient to show him the right way forward.

I'm another Benny fan - he won me and Kate over in a matter of minutes!   Obviously nervous and a bit scared but let him come to you and he is really happy to have fuss and lots and lots of treats!   I look forward to spending time with him, I feel us walkers may be fighting for the privilege of walking beautiful Benny  :D

Benny and I had a big play today - boy, does he love his ball and boy, can he move fast  Laughing

I really wanted to try and get some better photos but it wasn't to be - either a blur or just a back end Rolling Eyes

I did manage to catch one as he stopped for a sniff -

Shows the beautiful markings he has and gives a glimpse of those amazing ears. He is settling into his new surroundings and seemed slightly less on edge today. As he is extremely keen on treats training will not be so hard - and a little fattening up would not go amiss Wink

The gorgeous Benny continues to settle find his feet. He is begining to get to know us all and relax a little more but we do still seem to have a problem with leads Confused

He is now very happy to have a slip rope on and had a lovely walk with Wendy yesterday, but it would appear it is the sound of the clip leads that seems to scare him - I was begining to think, today, that it is almost as if he has had clicker training gone horribly wrong at some point Confused

All we can do is to persevere and show him there is nothing to worry about - and we will, liver cake / lead click / liver cake / lead click - anyone got any more liver cake Wink

I had two lovely walks with Benny today. Wendy worked her magic and between the two of us, quite a few treats and the slip lead, "we" (mostly Wendy!!) managed to get an extender onto him. After that we were off with Finlay for a brisk walk. Benny really is a dream to walk. He is interested in everything including grass and water and squirrels. He is quite attentive and will come back to you for treats when you call him.

After that walk Wendy swapped Finlay for Spice and we were off again. These two dogs walked beautifully together. They were both on extenders and were out as far as they could go, ambling along sniffing the same patches of grass without any problem at all. We were under the trees for a lot of the time and there were a lot of squirrels to be watched.  Rolling Eyes Benny reminds me a lot of Cassie when he does that. Very attentive, ears up, one paw up ready to chase the little blighters off. He really is lovely. He sits and gives his paw very readily for treats. After our walk we did another joint effort of extender to slip lead and then no lead at all in the kennel. He is very scared of the lead but is easily distracted with some nice treats. We left him happily munching away. I can't imagine this lovely little man will be with us for long. He is such a star.

No problems with Benny and the lead today - I put the slip lead on first then put the extender on outside without a flicker from him, so it looks like having such a good time yesterday has reassured him a bit!

We walked with Milly and Finlay this morning, and he had a great time looking for squirrels, then playing with a stick.  He wagged his tail at the other two when he met them but then ignored them to do his own thing!  He is definitely starting to relax and show what a fab chap he is.

He loved Tony when he met him, and was really keen to meet a couple of ladies in the car park too.  And I got some lovely cuddles too.... Laughing

Benny was in a really fun and playful mood today. He gave me a lovely welcome when he was having a run around on the grass. He seems very affectionate. He was bouncing around and looking happy.

Then he let Jayne put the slip lead on him with no trouble. I expected him to be quite nervous but he didn't seem like that at all. Just happy to be out playing.  :D I think he was a little distracted by us all fussing over him, and Jayne was very stealthful slipping the lead over his head.  Wink

Milly, Finlay and Benny were all great together on the walk. We stopped to take a few photo's but most of them were blurry as I was also holding on to Milly. A couple came out ok though.

I did not walk Benny today but he had a lovely run out in the yard with Karen.  Before I left I gave him a treat and he put his head up side ways against the kennel wire so I could stroke him.  All he wanted was some love and a cuddle.  I felt awful as I was in a rush to go and already had walked 4 dogs!  You will not be disappointed Jilly.  I am sure he will find his forever home soon as the pictures just show what a lovely dog he is.

Benny is gorgeous! Today was my first walk with him. We had lots of cuddles in his kennel first. It was very easy to put the slip lead on him, but not so easy to clip on the extender lead - he barked at me the first time I tried, so we went out with just the slip lead and when he was squirrel spotting, I managed to sort out the extender lead - and then we both enjoyed our walk  Smile  He spent most of the time looking at the tree tops - just like Cassie, as Kate has already mentioned. When he's on squirrel alert, his ears stand right up and what big (cute) ears he has!

We met an offlead lab and Benny wanted to play chase - he was much too fast for the lab though  Confused

We met Amy back at the kennels and he gave her a huge bear hug and rested his head on her chest. I think I must have looked jealous, so he did the same to me  Embarassed

Benny is coming round, but still has a slight air of uncertainty about him. He just needs a bit of confidence and I'm sure we'll all do our best to give him that  Smile

Walked Benny today and everything everyone says is true. He is gorgeous a slim handsome boy with big ears and personality to match. We have all found out he does not like his clip lead so like the others I slipped his slip lead on and then in the kitchen I gave him a chew and then put the clip lead on while he was chewing. No reaction so if you side track him it works.

I thought of Cassie today walking him and his first full pelt run had him flat on his back with the extender lead groaning. He took the hint and from then on seemed to know just when to stop running. Very affectionate boy and yes the ears are loved being rubbed. When he sits he does a funny thing offering both paws for a treat and they kind of bend in. He is adorable. He does love to squirrel spot so you need to be aware to always have a tight hold but not hard to handle at all. Another diamond dog !!!

Lovely long walk with Wendy, Spice and Benny today. These two dogs get on so well together. Benny was very playful with Spice, doing lots of play bows and chasing each other round. Made for an interesting time with the extending leads! Once we got back under the trees he was on full on squirrel patrol!
