Her Story: English Bull Terrierx, white with dotty ears! Born May 09; she came into our care having been moving from home to home. She arrived into our care without even a collar. She is deaf but compensates extremely well.
Homing Requirements: Dotty needs to be with a hearing dog as she has very poor hearing ?Deaf but on the whole you wouldn't know, as she focuses on facial expressions and body language. Mixes with dogs well inside and outside. Dotty needs awareness around food, rubbish bins etc. as can snap or snarl if challenged and this is why she can't live with children. She gives clear signals and no mal-intention. Shares everything else well eg. space or object.
Advert: Dotty is a beauty who needed so much extra loving care and guidance in her youth -but had inconsistency; abandonment and neglect. Ava embraces life, adores her walks and loves the company of dogs and her humans. Settles into routine and attunes to the requirements of her situation. Housetraining is good. Dotty needs a bullbreed confident person who reads her exaggerated and heart felt attempts to communicate. She should live with a 'hearing' dog. She has feelings and can speak to you all about them.
Dotty has stolen our hearts . Dotty was foster owners and her foster EBT brother. She has come on leaps and bound from the 'crazy confused' little girl who arrived with us 3months ago. Can you offer Dotty stability; firm, loving kindness. She needs a regime around mealtimes to avoid stress but food is lessening its grip as time flies by.. She is a delight. Ava would delight in visiting children with care around food, as we have said she is very communicative so quite easy to read. Dotty takes treats gently. She must also be managed carefully around roads and access to roads. She is in good health and so ready for her family. Ava is practically little Miss Perfect.
Please visit Dotty's individual thread, in Dogs needing homes in Kennels on our Forum to find out more about her and follow her progress.
If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.
Dotty's thread is below: Witness her progress from raw beginnings
Dotty has been home jumping. Laura has taken her into foster as she would definitely have been put to sleep via a large rescue do to her disability and behavioural difficulties resulting from not having the appropriate training and input she so needs to be able relate to her world and the people, dogs and cats she comes into contact with.
Laura is beginning to use touch, gesture, visual inputs, affirmation as feedback for her and Ruby is playmate/ role model. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Fantastic news thank goodness that this little mite has found someone who is prepared to put the time in.
Having Ruby around as well I am sure will be a great help to her. We had an old blind and deaf dog when I was growing up and he used our other dog like a guide dog. It helped so much.
This is a lovely Christmas miracle for little one.

Found somewhere without sledges to run them over! This must be Dotty's first snow. She liked it but wasn't as crazy about it. She isn't keen on cold or wet though.

Dotty has a lively, confident and outgoing little character. She does love a cuddle and sleep and gives lovely kisses Some pics of her when she is a calmer mood!
Little Dotty was doing so well but today a neighbour had left a rubbish bag outside Laura's front door which had bones in. Initially Dotty disregarded it but suddenly the 'starved dog' in her went into 'guard prized possession' mode. She caught Laura's hand as Laura came forwards and that sparked Ruby to go in on Dotty. A fight broke out and Laura managed to break it up with neither dog really hurt, just a few scrapes but not easy to manage. Dotty- 7 month puppy; who has had a bad start from a rough home situation; who is deaf so finds it harder to relate in the hearing world never -hearing the kindness or fun conveyed by the voice. Mix this in with changing homes with no consistency and we can forgive her everything..and know we will get it right for her. Laura has allowed us to get to grip with Ava's needs even though Laura's situation isn't the right one for her at this time.
Dotty has gone into Farnham kennels so she can enjoy Cassie's company and lovely walks and fuss.
She needs a dog experienced foster or home who can understand how to communicate through into her silent world and win her through so food isn't such a serious issue for her. Her dog skills and people skills are good. She has boundless energy and seeks company and comfort. She can communicate and assert herself through snapping without malintent but needs someone who can make allowances for her so she can learn softer ways to relate. Kind, Calm & Firm touch; exaggerated gestures and tactile methods. I would use a lot of firm touch and strokes to affirm her body image and centre her. Dependable routine will play a big part in her development and trust building exercises with 3 or 4 small meals a day so she doesn't touch 'hunger' which she has clearly known.
We experience a lot of magic in our rescue..we are sure Dotty will come through this and so pleased we can be there for her. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
What a situation! God love her, The Hunger situation can easily be worked on it's the Deaf Situation, but that in itself is Not a Situation, it can quiet easily be over come by someone who has the time , love & understanding to help poor Dotty She can quiet easily be thought hand jesture's for comand's, like a child with sign language wish i lived closer cause i would be first in line to help out with hand command's.
It's also heart breaking for the person who is caring for the little animal, cause they have been put in a situation where they have to do what is right for them.
Hopefully someone will come forward and give this lovely little animal what she so need and deserve's _________________ irishemeraldlady
Laura - my heart goes out to you. You have had two very upsetting experiences with fostering so close together through just circumstances that could not be avoided.
I feel so sorry for you but please know how great you have been fostering 2 of our dogs and working with them. Sometimes we can only give a short helping hand through no fault of our own but know that time makes a massive difference to the dogs.
Hats off to you for coming forward for Dotty. Please Know how appreciated you are by all of us !!!
Me and my friend Nic met Dotty today, we walked her with Cassie and they were brilliant together! Dotty is totally stunning and very very good natured. Nic fell for her instantly, she was lovely to walk, doesn't pull on the lead, was very patient and co-operative when we put her coat on and just all round a lovely dog. We even gave her a big treat in her kennel and she was perfect, Nic stroked her face while she was chewing and she took no notice, lovely little girl! She gave a bit of a growl when we were on the other side of the fence but her tail was between her legs poor thing so we left her with her treat. With the right owner and some patience she will make an amazing pet for someone!
We met the angel Dotty today and what a stunning girl she is!! All curled up in her bed when we arrived and we had to gently wake her as she couldn't hear us. She trotted out so happily - she really is a dream girl. She walks fantastically well on her lead - no pulling at all. She makes soft little noises - not growly ones at all. She is good shape - seems really healthy and with nice muscle tone.
Such a sweet sweet face, loads of character and lovely temperament. She took lots of treats - enthusiastically but not aggressively at all. Seemed happy to go back to her bed. Really gorgeous girl who needs a bullie fan to guide and love her.
Just to add that the weather was dreadful and Dotty really enjoyed being rubbed down with a towel when we got back - the pleasure on her face was plain to see and she wriggled too.
What a sweet girl - I love her already. Just need to learn a bit of doggie sign language so I can tell her!
